Job Summary
The College of Science at the University of Utah is hiring an experienced communications professional for the role of Associate Director of Marketing and Communication.
This person will be responsible for managing the College’s marketing and communications team and operations. The team will run the College’s website, social media presence, publications, electronic newsletters, event marketing, and student and development communications. In addition, the team will develop an overall brand that can be implemented with internal and external-facing College materials. While primary responsibilities will be focused on college-level projects, the team will also support the College’s eight departments.
The successful candidate will manage the overall team’s efforts, as well as working on their own portfolio of individual projects. The candidate will need to balance short-term, deadline-based assignments with long-term activities. As a result, previous experience with website management, graphic design, social media campaigns, or excellent writing skill are all assets with this position. Science communication experience is a plus, but not required. Through all of this, this individual will be expected to execute good judgment and strong interpersonal skills in order to plan and execute exceptional marketing/communications strategies and products.

Responsibilities
1. Develops and implements customer service, staffing, and financial objectives for assigned stakeholders consistent with the University’s goals and objectives.
2. Manages the team’s budget and estimates budgetary requirements for special projects.
3. Implements and administers new and existing programs and services to internal and external customers. Evaluates program effectiveness. May carry out and implement logistic plans and procedures to ensure that internal university and external entities’ needs are met.
4. Develops and adheres to project timelines. Ensures that projects are accomplished in accurate and timely manners.
5. Participates in the development and interpretation of polices to ensure compliance with the University’s policies and regulatory requirements. Ensures compliance with Federal and state regulations.
6. Establishes internal objectives and implements procedures to meet goals. Assists in setting short and long-term goals.
7. Oversees staff management including recruitment, performance evaluations, and retention of staff.
8. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing customer complaints, concerns, and suggestions. Provides appropriate follow through to ensure quality customer service.
9. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with the community and other institutions.
10. Authorizes the purchase and implementation of new technology, resources, and equipment. Works with other units and external contractors as needed.
11. Serves as part of the management team.
12. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
