The School of Public Health has an outstanding opportunity for a Digital Communications Manager. The Digital Communications Manager leads the University of Washington (UW) School of Public Health's (SPH) digital communications efforts, focusing on social media management and content development, as well as mass e-mail communications. The ideal candidate is skilled in writing and conceptualizing innovative social media content/digital storytelling, audience segmentation and strategy, and data analysis; all with a lens that aligns our work with and supports the School's anti-racism and social justice efforts.
This position reports directly to the Director for Marketing and Communications on the Advancement team within the SPH Office of the Dean, and primarily works with Advancement colleagues, SPH department communicators, SPH faculty, and various teams throughout the Office of the Dean in developing compelling social media content about our community-orientated work, our award-winning students and faculty, and our cutting-edge research and impact.
Skills and attributes for this role include strong writing/storytelling skills, creativity, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to identify trends. It requires the ability to translate complex stories about our people, data, research and impact - all with an anti-racist lens - into compelling digital content, along with the professional judgement to know how to best deliver those stories.
Responsibilities:
Social Media Management and Content Development
In collaboration with the Director for Marketing and Communications, develop channel-specific strategies that grow SPH's social media presence, and develop multi-channel digital campaign strategies; leverage social campaigns to direct traffic and promote engagement on SPH website
Write and develop original social content in collaboration with the editorial and creative team in translating SPH stories into compelling social media pieces that demonstrate expertise and impact in public health, and support School programs, projects and initiatives
Manage "live social programming," finding opportunities to stream School, department and Center webinars and events as appropriate to SPH social media channels Manage, monitor, and engage with SPH's social media community on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok and other social media sites as user trends evolve
Manage social media editorial calendar
Connect with colleagues within the Office of the Dean and across the School to identify promotion needs and schedule into the social calendar
Manage and optimize paid social media campaigns
E-news communications management and list management
Serve as the key approver, creator and scheduler of all emails sent through the Office of the Dean utilizing digital e-mail marketing tools (Marketo and Jeto)
Manage Marketo e-mail calendar and requests
Collaborate with colleagues in the Office of the Dean and across the School in identifying content for our various newsletters, (a monthly internal newsletter, monthly faculty newsletter, and a quarterly donor and alumni newsletter)
Review submitted copy or develop promotional copy as needed for stories, events, and programs embedded in newsletter
Manage constituent lists and ensure data integrity for clean list management
Data Analysis
Analyze social media insights, and develop bi-weekly reporting that informs our marketing and communications social media strategy
Analyze Marketo/Jeto data to optimize Office of the Dean e-mail marketing strategy and encourage high open and engagement rates
Other Duties
Attend weekly SPH Communicators meeting and UW Social Media Roundtable; sharing best practices for digital marketing strategies to support department Marketos and social strategy growth, and encourage a unified brand/approach across the School
Reporting and Supervision
This position reports to the Director for Marketing and Communications at the University of Washington School of Public Health.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three years of marketing/communications experience, or public health communications experience, or related field. An equivalent combination of comparable knowledge and skills may substitute for education and/or experience.
Exceptional writing skills and proven ability to communicate to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to develop communications that are aligned with the School's core values of equity, social justice and anti-racism.
High attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with an array of internal and external stakeholders, at varying levels.
Understanding of current and emerging social media trends.
Demonstrated ability to manage online communities and support a brand's reputation.
Demonstrated ability to create content independently.
Desired Qualifications
Experience working with e-mail clients like Marketo/Jeto, and database software.
Experience or background in public health, or science communications.
