The Collaboration Core has an outstanding opportunity for a Financial Services Supervisor (payroll title: Budget/Fiscal Unit Supervisor) to join their team.

The Collaboration Core is an administrative unit within the College of Engineering established to advise and support interdisciplinary institutes, centers, departments, and facilities. The Collaboration Core maintains centralized operations and coordinates staffing and specialized support for research, education, communications, and events.

Collaboration Core is building out a new pillar of work to support Accounting and Billing operations for the College of Engineering in anticipation of the UW Financial Transformation. This is one of several positions created to support multiple departments within the College of Engineering. This position requires in-depth knowledge and demonstrates expertise in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The successful candidate must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations and Strategic Planning (50%)

Oversight and monitoring of daily accounting activities and the month-end close process, ensuring financial transactions and adjustments are well-supported and properly recorded.

Provide monthly budget variance and trend analysis explanations.

Oversee the production of specialized financial reports, preparing information and reports that forecast trends, analyze performance results, and address financial concerns. To include monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for the College of Engineering and its departments.

Provide timely research and respond to information requests from UW, College of Engineering, and related departments.

Ensure internal control processes are in place and monitored for compliance.

Lead the development of accounting policies, ensuring continuity with institutional policy and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); provide for continuing data processing support to include the development and implementation of required system changes and procedures.

Identify and implement improvements to accounting systems and processes and maintain appropriate accounting control procedures.

Leadership and People Management (50%)

Lead efforts to respond to audit reports, recommend corrective management actions, and identify changes to meet discrepancies or noncompliance cited by the auditor.

Provide subject matter expertise, testing, training, and change management support related to the upcoming implementation of the enterprise general ledger system, Workday.

Manage the work of two Shared Services Specialists and a Shared Services Analyst to ensure appropriate accounting procedures are in place and the University complies with all applicable policies, laws, and regulations.

Build effective, collaborative working relationships throughout the organization.

Serve as an advisor to faculty and staff on allowable costs on budgets from multiple sources.

Represent the Collaboration Core on institutional committees or task forces, as assigned.

Manage and evaluate the performance of staff.

Lead the team through mentoring, building skills through experience and training, assigning and approving work, problem-solving, relating strategic planning strategies to staff positions, and providing management support.

Review staff work and provide coaching and assistance in performing their duties.

Assign and balance department workload.

Other duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; three years of experience in the administration of departmental financial processes and systems, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced skill level in using General Ledger applications and supporting software programs.

Strong understanding of GAAP and GASB Accounting Standards and principles.

Record of success in managing within a complex organization and with a strong collaborative working style.

Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

Demonstrated experience analyzing and presenting financial information from multiple sources.

Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office products.

CPA license preferred.

Knowledge of Workday.

Experience working in a high-volume environment.

Higher education or state agency experience.

Effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills; comfortable communicating across all organizational levels.

Commitment to completing tasks with attention to detail and routine, critical self-review.

Strong organizational skills with a proactive and positive working style; meets deadlines.

Ability to respond to urgent ad hoc information, research, and data requests.

Record of strong analytical, critical thinking, sound judgment, and advanced reconciliation skills.

Knowledge of UW policies, regulations, and institutional/state accounting and/or budget procedures is highly desirable.
