JOB DUTIES:


POSITION: A full-time university staff position is available in Blugold Central-Registrar's Unit beginning May 6, 2024. The working title for this assignment is a Report Writer with an official title of Database Report Writer I. This is an expected-to-continue assignment which requires a six-month probationary period. The expected hiring salary is $59,000.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience writing, designing, developing, and running database queries and reports as needed on demand using current query tools; demonstrated organizational and analytical skills and ability to meet deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Working knowledge of the academic structure of a university; understanding of student and curricular data that supports the operational and academic functions of a university; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.

DUTIES:

Position Summary:

This position writes and publishes queries in the Oracle OBIEE Data Warehouse. The position serves as data custodian and develops student and curricular reports to support the operational and academic functions of the University. This position serves as the liaison for the daily Oracle OBIEE operational services and routinely collaborates with the Learning and Technology Services (LTS) developers and user departments. This position partners on data projects for the division and assists with processes within Records and Registration. This position reports directly to the Assistant Registrar.

70% A. Data Warehouse Oracle OBIEE Report Writer

A1.


Evaluate data requests to identify business requirements and priorities while determining alignment with policies, procedures and standards.

Develop queries and create reports using OBIEE to support the operational functions of the University community and external users.

Continuously improve skills and maintain a high level of technical expertise of the software automation capabilities and functionality to promote efficiency.


A4.


Maintain expert knowledge of the student records data to ensure processes sustain data integrity and apply controls to safeguard accuracy of data.


A5.


Work with end users and LTS to ensure data integrity and reliability.


A6.


Monitor and update SharePoint Data Requests.


10% B. Assist in the Development of Reporting Structures.

B1.


Collaborate with LTS developers and the Assistant Registrar to create and improve the reporting structure.


B2.


Verify the daily operations of OBIEE reporting are functioning properly and report any data model problems to LTS. Lead problem resolution with business area and LTS when necessary.

Test and assess the accuracy of the reporting structure to ensure data integrity.

Recommend changes and enhancements to the reporting structure.

If a data request cannot be fulfilled with existing reporting structure, coordinate with LTS to develop recommendations for possible alternatives.


10% C. Regulate Access to the Reporting Tool and Train End Users.

C1. Determine if the access to confidential information is appropriate, applying knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and Wisconsin Open Records law.

C2. Provide training and assistance to end users on running published queries and reading reports.

C3. Provide query specific documentation outlining how data results were derived and the specific fields utilized.

C4. Serve as the data custodian and ensure access to data is authorized and controlled. = C5. Maintain history of changes made within a query for audit purposes.

10% D. Misc data projects and assisting with Records and Registration processes.

D1. Provide training and expertise to other query writers on the use of the student and curricular data models.

D2. Partner on data projects for the division.

D3. Assist with processes within Records and Registration. D4. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the policies and academic structure of a university.
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices and methods of database structures and computer programming.
  • Working knowledge of the following computer tools, technologies and environments:
    • Student Information Systems.
    • Reporting tools (e.g. Oracle Analytics, Power BI, Tableau or other reporting tools)
    • Databases, data tables, and basic knowledge of programming.
    • Microsoft Office Excel, Word, SharePoint, Outlook.
  • Understanding of student and curricular data that supports the operational and academic functions of the University.
  • Ability to create reports, queries, and documentation utilizing reporting tools.
  • Ability to perform a variety of technical duties involved in the development, maintenance, and analysis of a reporting structure.
  • Ability to verify and assure accuracy of data.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to complete work requiring accuracy, problem solving, communication, and attention to detail.
  • Utilize excellent interpersonal oral/written communication, organizational, analytical, problemsolving, and resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize and meet schedules; including the ability to set timelines, identify priorities, and organize tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to determine appropriate course of action within clearly defined guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information.

THE UNIT: The Registrar unit of Blugold Central consists of 11 staff members.
