Georgia Southwestern State University invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, with the responsibility for directing the operations of the College. The College, with approximately 50 full-time faculty, includes the Departments of Biology; Chemistry, Geology and Physics; Mathematics; English and Modern Languages; History and Political Science; Music, Communications, and Emerging Media; Psychology and Sociology; and Visual Arts. The Dean reports to the Provost / Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Dean is responsible for effective leadership in achieving annual goals, strategic planning, program coordination, fiscal and personnel management, quality assurance, and overall supervision of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The successful candidate will

• possess an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution, a record of distinguished teaching and scholarship, and credentials to qualify for the rank of full professor in one of the College's disciplines.
• demonstrate administrative ability and experience, especially in a collegial setting with highly qualified and motivated faculty from diverse disciplines.
• be able to enhance the effectiveness of the University’s educational, creative, research, and outreach activities.
• be able to maintain and strengthen relationships within the College, with other disciplines and organizations in the University, and with the surrounding community.
• preferably possess experience in grant writing, teaching in a small university, and commitment to diversity and inclusion across multiple disciplines.
• be willing to teach a minimum of one course in their discipline per year

related to hiring, promotion, tenure, and terms of employment.

• Possess an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution, a record of distinguished teaching and scholarship, and credentials to qualify for the rank of full professor in one of the College's disciplines.
• More than five years of teaching experience in higher education is required.

• preferably has progressively served in leadership roles in higher education (e.g. department chair, associate dean)

• Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and within the range of $90,000-$120,000
