Job Summary

The Program Facilitator is a member of the Residential Inclusion and Leadership Development Education (RILDE) team within Residential Life / University Housing. They play a key role in educating students via the creation, implementation, evaluation, and administration of both formal and informal student involvement, leadership skill development, and inclusion & belonging programs in the residence halls using a residential curriculum model. They are also responsible for the supervision of student paraprofessional staff who support residential programming in these areas.

Duties & Responsibilities

Inclusion and Leadership Education

  • Create and implement lesson plans to achieve the goals and learning outcomes of the residential curriculum with a specific focus on teaching students’ skills in the areas of social justice exploration and community engagement.
  • Conduct evaluation and assessment of educational curricular strategies reflected in residential life programming.
  • Identify learning objectives specific to inclusion, belonging, and leadership education for students who live in University Housing.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate a broad range of cultural, educational, and inclusive residential life leadership programs that support the diverse needs of residents and in support of the mission of the University and University Housing.
  • Assist with full time staff training and development in the areas of belonging, and leadership education, cultural competency, and advising student leaders. Serve on the University Housing Hate/Bias Incident Response Team and develop restorative educational response measures for implementation.
  • Facilitate restorative justice programs, teaching students’ skills in the areas of inclusive decision making, active accountability, repairing harm, and rebuilding trust. Serve as one of the contacts for Residential Life with various Student Affairs units responsible for inclusion and intercultural relations and leadership education efforts for students, such as the Illinois Leadership Center, Office of the Dean of Students programs, the Illini Union program staff, and the campus cultural houses and resource centers.
Advising and Mentoring
  • Provide structured advising, mentorship and educational programming for several University Housing student organizations, including identity-based groups focused on teaching and exploring culture, student involvement, and retention.
  • Teach leadership skills to members of student groups that allow them to engage in effective residential life programming and community event planning. Provide educational cultural and diversity programming via work with Housing student organizations.
  • Plan travel and chaperone state, regional, and/or national student leadership conferences and educational trips with students.
  • Work a flexible schedule due to a high volume of evening and weekend commitments with students.
Supervision
  • Recruit, hire, train, and provide supervision for student paraprofessional staff following residential curriculum strategies particularly around inclusion and belonging. Design and implement annual staff training and weekly development programs for student paraprofessional staff.
  • Conduct informal and formal performance appraisals for paraprofessional staff. Implement conflict management strategies when team issues arise.
  • Collaborate with Residence Hall Directors on curricular strategies for residence halls.
  • Supervisors will engage and implement University Housing’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Administrative
  • Assist in the coordination of the University Housing fall student move-in program. Assist with the coordination of the students’ residential fundraising program.
  • Manage program budgets and provide training and resources for students developing program budgets and making purchases. Utilize databases for tracking curricular efforts, financial procedures and student data.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Two years of full-time experience in Education, Student Affairs, Residential Life or Housing (graduate assistantships are not considered full-time work.) Experience working closely with a diverse student body and staff. Experience designing and facilitating inclusive leadership and/or inclusion education programs and/or workshops. Experience managing conflict among/between college students. Experience advising college or university student groups.

Preferred Qualifications

Education - Preferred: Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Social Work, Social Justice Education or a related field.

Experience - Preferred: A minimum of 2 years full-time experience in Residential Life or Housing. Experience developing inclusive leadership lesson plans. Supervision experience. Experience planning large-scale programs, administrative processes, and/or events. Experience advising culturally based student organizations. Experience teaching. Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex environment.

Training, Licenses or Certifications - Preferred: A valid driver’s license is strongly preferred to drive students to leadership conferences and programs in University vehicles.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and cross-cultural competency, including written, verbal, and presentation/training skills.
  • Knowledge of student learning, student development, and identity development theories.
  • Familiarity with outcomes-based education.


Physical Demands/Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to multi-task and move around campus effectively in a busy and unpredictable environment. Work will take place in office and residence hall environments including but not limited to student common and meeting spaces and various administrative offices/spaces on campus. There is no set schedule for this Academic Professional position, and it does require a flexible work scheduling including many nights and weekends to attend programs and advise University Housing sponsored student organizations. Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 12/18/2023. The salary range for this position is $52,000 to $55,000 and is commensurate with experience.
