General Summary:
The Product Specialist is accountable for analyzing and interpreting data and assisting in the management of one or more products to meet sales and financial objectives. The Product Specialist obtains, analyzes and communicates customer, market and competitive information to influence strategies to improve pricing, sales and risk management performance and profitability. The Product Specialist provides sales support by answering questions from the field, preparing competitive positioning documents and product comparisons. This position participates in cross-functional teams to develop and implement new product, marketing and training activities, including the production of marketing and training materials.Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Research, analyze and interpret customer, market and competitor data to determine product positioning and marketing opportunities and to develop strategies to obtain a competitive advantage in the marketplace
- Evaluate product financials and statistics to make recommendations that will result in profitable growth and improve product performance
- Develop measurement standards and complete regular product analysis to evaluate the performance of assigned products and competitor initiatives
- Contributes to the design and development of new and modified products.
- Supports all size product-related projects.
- Subject matter expert for the development of content for field training and marketing materials, and participates in the delivery of products and programs to the field and home office.
- Develops and maintains field relationships to enhance knowledge of marketplace needs and competitor activities
- Writes and publishes competitive positioning documents and product comparisons.
- Answers product-related field questions to assist in driving sales.
- Delivers presentations to key audiences.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
- BA/BS or equivalent related work experience required
- Two years of professional job related experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to become proficient in industry and market trends, using that knowledge to develop tactical marketing recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to develop thorough product knowledge and expertise and understanding risk management
- Strong problem-solving, quantitative and analytical skills
- Ability to participate and actively engage on cross-functional teams and to manage projects, making decisions and negotiating outcomes with business partners
- Ability to handle multiple priorities with demanding timeframes
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with ability to influence decisions and build internal and external relationships
- Effective presentation skills
- Strong sense of urgency and time management skills

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$51,300.00-$89,800.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
