Custodian
Full time; Monday-Friday 37.5 hours per week
Duties & Responsibilities:
Cleaning/Housekeeping:
- Sweeping and dry/wet mopping floors
- Waxing, buffing and stripping of floors
- Vacuuming carpets
- Emptying of waste receptacles & replacing the liners of disposal of waste
- Cleaning of lavatories and commodes
- Replacement of lavatory supplies, cleaning of sinks, glass work, walls, doors and tile work
- Dusting/polishing of ledges, windows and furniture
- Moving of waste, medical waste, equipment and supplies within and outside of the buildings
- Supplies:
- Receiving incoming supplies and equipment
- Distribute incoming packages and supplies
- Clean and maintain custodial supply closets, notifying supervisor when supplies are low
Maintenance:
- Replace light bulbs, tubes and fluorescent lamps as needed
- Change water filters, air filters, oil locks and hinges
- Notify supervisor of maintenance needs
- Painting
- Yard/Landscaping
- Remove debris, snow, ice and water from building exits and ramps and gates
- Clean pavement, planting, grass cutting, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, raking and water/snow/ice removal
Security:
This position May act as “ back-up” for Security personnel. This is expected to happen rarely and may include:
- Opening up and closing/locking up of buildings, patrolling the buildings and grounds, escorting staff or patients to their cars at night, mail courier internally and between buildings, filling out incident reports and answering phones
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Basic Knowledge:
- Two (2) years of experience in custodial work or as a handyman.
- High school diploma or equivalent knowledge
Experience & Qualifications:
- Current Massachusetts driver’s license
- Flexibility in hours
- Ability to communicate with and work among other co-workers, supervisor and patients
- Ability to act independently and safely, according to procedure
- Ability to work outside and inside, spending most of the day “ on your feet,” standing, lifting, bending.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Independent Action:
Under supervision, performs duties in accordance with established methods and procedures, referring all problems to supervisor when not covered by instructions or precedent
