Description
The CPE will be responsible for: leading and managing the Injury Prevention Program education programs, initiatives, communications and services, for overseeing and developing partnerships, committees and collaborative initiatives that focus on reducing injury to children and adolescents and promotion of Injury Prevention services throughout the region, and for collaborating with Injury Prevention leadership on strategic goals and outreach opportunities, when needed. This position will work mostly daylight but will require some evening/weekend shifts for community events.

This position also allows the staff to create their own programs based on the science of prevention.
The person selected for this role will need to achieve Child Passenger Safety Technician certification within the first 6 months of employment. This is covered by UPMC.
Responsibilities:
- Represents injury prevention at community events and in professional organizations, committees, conventions, and other events as needed.
- Recruits and trains volunteer injury prevention educators from a variety of organizations.
- Manages, maintains and expands injury prevention online presence, including the injury prevention website.
- Manages the logistical support of education events.
- Manages injury prevention education program delivery to public health agencies, community organizations, general public and health care providers.
- Contributes of management functions including: operations, budget, communications, staff and project/program development.
- Maintains a system to collect, analyze and report information on programs presented, materials distributed, and contacts made throughout service area. Provide regular reports on education efforts.
- Designs and implements appropriate evaluation tools to determine program effectiveness.
- Coordinates with the foundation staff to obtain grants and corporate funding; assists in developing and writing grant proposals.
- Coordinates injury prevention education through schools, community programs, media, presentations, events, health fairs, and other requests made to the Injury Prevention Department.
- Assesses community needs to determine appropriate injury prevention interventions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science, Education, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in healthcare, public health education, community outreach or related experience.
- Excellent communication skills a must (verbal and written).
- Proficient computer skills and the ability to work independently.
- Experience working with multiple audiences including children through community outreach preferred. Must be able to travel throughout the region (western Pennsylvania).
- Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Driver's License
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
