UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full-time Manager, Compliance to support Magee-Womens Research Institute and Foundation!
This position will work daylight shifts. Hours are subject to change based on business needs. Flexible work schedule, remote and/or hybrid work available!
The ideal candidate will have significant NIH of Federal grant/contract experience.
This position will lead MWRIF’s compliance team. The initial focus will be on financial compliance. Eventually, this role will monitor overall compliance for all of MWRIF including conflict of interest and research compliance.
Magee-Womens Research Institute and Foundation MWRIF is the largest research entity in the US focused on the health of women and infants. This Compliance Manager will report to MWRI CEO and to the Chair of the MWRI Finance Committee and will assist with all compliance functions for the organization. This is a key position that requires the keen ability to understand laws, rules, and regulations and to provide recommendations for improvement when necessary. JD preferred, strong written and oral communication skills with all levels of stakeholders, experience as an auditor or prior experience with research/grant funding strongly preferred, prior experience in research environment strongly preferred.
The Manager Compliance, MWRIF is responsible for development and implementation of organizational compliance initiatives for MWRIF. As a research organization with a foundation component, MWRIF operates in a highly-regulated environment and the Manager, Compliance plays an integral leadership role in creating a culture of compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders, including federal and state regulatory entities.
- Build, improve and drive consistency of objectives, processes, and tools. Appropriately escalate pertinent issues to senior management as needed.
- Collaborates with colleagues at MWRIF, the University of Pittsburgh, and UPMC to ensure compliances with all organizational requirements.
- Coordinates the daily activities of the MWRIF compliance team in accordance with system wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Develops Policies & Procedures to support the mission of MWRIF.
- Develops and provides training for the organization.
- Facilitate enhancement of the MWRIF Compliance program.
- Follows company standard for record retention requirements.
- Implement a robust Compliance Office to address allegations of member discrimination, internal and external allegations of misconduct and non-compliance.
- Implement, monitor, track reporting requirement to verify success of the Compliance Office, as measured by assessments and metric based analysis.
- Implements all Compliance Office goals and objectives are met in a timely, effective fashion. Keep current with standards and requirements, including all relevant laws, rules and industry standards and company practices.
- Leads team for discrimination allegation reviews and investigations.
- Maintains all pertinent documentation to support each investigation case.
- Partner with business and operational leaders, cross functionally and collaboratively, to develop a structured coordinated and effective framework for review, interpretation, and communication. Ability to project manage investigation requirements for the Compliance Office.
- Provide clear, effective, and timely updates for compliance committees, senior management and/or the Board, regarding investigation findings, effectiveness of initiatives and issues, including all relevant metrics, dashboards and information.
- Responsible for investigations and reporting regarding discrimination allegations.
- Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required, Masters degree or JD preferred.
- Minimum of five years of compliance experience with increasingly progressive responsibility.
- Three to five years of strong investigation with experience in leading investigations required.
- Three to five years of experience in a managerial/leadership role preferred.
- Proven ability to effectively and timely manage multiple initiatives and cross departmental projects.
- Expertise in development of training programs.
- Strong verbal, written and auditory communications skills.
- Strong ability to synthesize complex requirements and clearly and concisely articulate the relevant points.
- Strong program and project management skills and experience required.
- Ability to influence at all levels of the organization, including executive management; the Board; regulators; employees; customers; partners and vendors.
- Highly consultative and partnership-oriented in approach.
- Strong emotional intelligence and self-awareness required.
- Ability to independently and self-sufficiently identify and navigate various operational issues.
- The role requires striking the optimal balance between strategically navigating the regulatory requirements and business needs in a manner that is nuanced and mutually reinforcing.
- Relevant trade associations memberships, certifications & risk assessment preferred.
