Job Description
Job Title: Transportation Specialist
Group: Health and Senior Services
Supervisor: Activity Coordinator
Compensation: $22.00
Scope: The Urban League of Portland’s Senior Services Department provides assistance to older adults and their caregivers by safely providing transportation to the Urban League Senior Center, Medical Appointments, Pharmacy, Grocery Shopping, Recreational and Educational Activities and scheduled weekend events.
COVID-19 Requirements: All employees must have completed a COVID-19 vaccine series that has been authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or by the World Health Organization (WHO) before beginning work
The Transportation Specialist contributes to Urban League of Portland’s commitments, initiatives, and goals in performing the following duties:
- Ability to work as a team with co-workers
- Must complete daily Pre and Post trip inspection reports
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Valid driver’s license with five years driving experience and excellent driving record as recorded by the Department of Motor Vehicles
- This position requires a standard Class C driver’s license
- Ability to operate a large vehicle
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people
- Responsible for interior and exterior cleanliness of vehicle
- Responsible for maintenance of vehicle
- Responsible for vehicle registration renewal and DEQ inspection.
- Responsible for filling the vehicle with fuel
- Transportation Specialist will operate vehicle (driving) 75%
- Transportation Specialist will perform administrative duties 25%
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
1. Must be respectful, courteous, considerate and helpful to the seniors transported.
2. Must adhere to all Ride Connections driver training courses
3. Must be able to work 40 hours per week and flexible hours.
4. Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
5. Ability to document accurate client information and maintain this data.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
7. Exhibit a professional, businesslike appearance and demeanor.
Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:
Sitting/Walking/Standing: Approximately 75% of time is spent seated while driving. Balance of time (approximately 25%) is spent standing, lifting or moving around the work area and administrative duties.
Speaking/Hearing: Have clear diction and acute hearing, for effective communication with co-workers, customers and outside agencies.
Vision: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use the computer screens and proof documents.
Stooping/Kneeling: Ability to stoop and kneel for accessing files/stock and retrieving and working with appropriate paperwork, equipment, and supplies.
Lifting: Ability to assist fragile passengers to their mobility devices and to their seats on the van and into their homes, possibly up and down stairs.
Reaching/handling: Good manual dexterity for computer keyboard use and for retrieving and working with appropriate paperwork, equipment, and supplies.
