Summary and Scope of Position :
This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Chiller Plant during the cooling season. This position is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Heating Plant to include the boilers and all auxiliary equipment and piping systems necessary for this task.
Employees of Ursinus College must possess excellent customer service skills and have an overall concern for the general welfare of the college and community and provide the best possible environment for education and student living.
Specific Responsibilities :
- Always obey all safety requirements and procedures.
- Perform preventative maintenance check on all equipment prior to use.
- Secure the work area and post proper safety notices for other users of the space prior to beginning work.
- Establish work priorities.
- Knowledge of pumps, pumping systems, valves and piping systems.
- Ability to run standard boiler water testing with the direction of contracted water treatment company.
- Knowledge of oil pumping systems, including storage tank systems and record keeping.
- Ability to keep accurate records for usage of water, fuels, chemicals, etc., as required for college record keeping and any federal, state, county, and local requirements.
- Responsible for the yearly cleaning and inspection of the boilers.
- Personnel oversight & accountability
- Ability to receive oil deliveries as required.
- Work with other employees to insure seven-day-a-week coverage.
- Ability to read basic wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge and operation of water softeners and de-alkalizers.
- Knowledge of de-aireating feed tanks.
- Review blueprints and specifications.
- Respond to on-call, after-hours emergencies.
- Interact with the college community.
- Snow removal as required
Qualifications : Mandatory
Mandatory
- High school diploma / GED required
- 5 years’ experience in operation of boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- General knowledge of other trades.
- Ability to work collaboratively with supervisor.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of power tools.
- Demonstrated knowledge of steam systems.
- Knowledge of chiller plants.
Preferred
- Fork Lift Operator’s License.
- Pennsylvania Boiler Operator’s license
Working Conditions :
- Must obey all safety requirements and procedures in operation of all power equipment and hand tools; wears protective safety glasses, respirators, clothing and other safety equipment as required.
- This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree; pushing and / or pulling; exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate with a diverse community
- In collaboration with supervisor and other employees, must ensure 7 day-a-week coverage.
