Duties

  • Conducting quantitative and qualitative studies to assess and improve decision models, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in Agency programs and management systems,
  • Performs individual studies by applying a thorough understanding of each area, using state of the art analytical techniques such as complex statistics, programming languages, and program inputs.
  • Evaluates and monitors public health programs, policies, or issues and applies appropriate theories, methods, and techniques to the study of Agency programs and operations.
  • Develops analytical and/or mathematical models for use in preparing evaluation criteria, testing sequences, and data collection/reduction requirements.
  • Codes with Python, SQL, C , MATLAB, or similar to analyze data sets and uses business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI) to generate reports
  • Searches, synthesizes, and interprets information and evidence relevant to public health.

Qualifications

The position of Interdisciplinary falls under the 1515/1530/1560 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 02/23/2024.

Basic Requirements

Series 1530 A. Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience - courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

Series 1515: Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus

Series 1560: You must possess a Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. You MUST include transcripts.

  • OR- A combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. You MUST include transcripts

In addition to the above Basic Requirements, applicants must also meet the below Minimum Qualifications requirement for the grade level(s) they wish to be considered.

Minimum Qualifications:
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience , or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.

GS-13: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12, in the Federal service, which includes: Planning, designing, and developing performance requirement and methodologies. (2) Conducting quantitative and qualitative studies to assess and improve decision models, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in Agency programs and management systems, and to support Agency regulations, policies, and procedures development. 3) Collaborates with Senior Staff, proposes topics for analysis, develops analysis plan, recommends methods and data sources, and develops analytical reports.
