What are the responsibilities and job description for the Writer position at US Ghost Adventures?
US Ghost Adventures ,a national tour company, is seeking skilled and creative Writers to research and create compelling tour scripts about the city and spooky locations in the area. Ideal candidates have experience in writing content for the travel industry and enjoy researching and writing about local history and culture.
Candidates must be local to the city, and know it well! You may need to visit tour stops during the creation of this experience to ensure routes are walkable and accessible for guests to visit on their own.
Compensation: We offer $400 per completed tour script. This includes written content, tour route, synopsis, introduction and conclusion, photos, and other applicable logistics.
We ask for a short proposal of your tour idea before officially signing off on the project.
Here is what we look for in a tour script proposal:
- You will be writing and designing a new experience that will consist of multiple locations.
- You will draw a route between points, provide the name and address of locations (or GPS pin)
- Starting location must be ideal for a good starting point for visitors, preferably an easily visible landmark.
- You will need to show the routes, walking distance, and locations on a google map
- You will need to provide a one-sentence summary for each location
- Total wordcount for scripts should be approximately 800 to 1000 each (60 - 90 minutes with walk time and script delivery)
- Stories in the script must be well researched and be based on the city's history and culture
- Scripts should be written for in-person verbal delivery
- Stories should be detailed, use local history, and move the reader through an interesting and emotional story.

Tour script requirements:
- Content cannot be dull, boring general history tours - scripts need to be interesting and compelling and most importantly scary
- Tours should be walkable and must not exceed 1.2 miles in total - and should be kept to between 60 and 90 minutes in duration
- Content needs to have market appeal that attracts people to learn something interesting about the city and visit historic or landmark locations
- Include interactive elements along the route that will make the tour more unique. (i.e. scavenger hunt clues or trivia questions)
- Stories should start with the background of the location but should also contain "little known facts" and stories of the history or other elements that make the location interesting
- Always cite your sources!
Writers must be willing to sign a non-disclosure contractor agreement.
