Duties

The incumbent demonstrates knowledge and competency in hemodynamic monitoring and early recognition of cardiac lethal dysrhythmias. This position provides technical assistance to the Cardiologist during all procedures occurring in the Catheterization Lab. The technician monitors the progression of procedures, assist the manager in improving technical training of new employees and students as well as directing patient inquiries to the appropriate person. This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as this is a 24/7 hospital. The incumbent may be required to rotate tours and duties during low/high census or complete administrative tasks established by the immediate supervisor These duties include, but are not limited to:

• aids physicians in aspects of cardiac catheterization and related invasive procedures such as coronary angioplasty, pulmonary angioplasty, and intra-aortic balloon insertion.
• The technician must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and take appropriate action.
• select, set up, and calibrate surgical instruments, catheters, radiographic contrast injectors, and radiographic imaging devices.
• Prepare cardiac medication for administration by the physician and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and take appropriate action.
• left heart catheterization, right heart catheterization, temporary pacemakers, pericardiocentesis, and intra-aortic balloon pump.
• Assists with the monitoring of the progression of procedures requiring independent judgement in order to provide specific instrument and/or catheters, as they are needed in anticipation of requests.
• Directs patient inquired to the appropriate person.
