What will you gain working at ZF CVCS Responsibilities and Requirements of the role: Position Summary: The Software Application Engineer EV is responsible for the overall controls integration of commercial vehicle ePowertrain products into Truck, Bus and Pickup vehicle applications. They are the primary technical liaison to our customers for all controls topics related to controls hardware, software, and calibration topics with regards to ZF ePowertrain technology. Responsible for leading software requirements discussions, software project management activities, software releases, functional changes, and calibration activities for ePowertrain controls throughout the development & application program. They coordinate their activities in tandem with the System Application Engineer who is acting as an overall technical project manager. Position Responsibilities: Working with the CV ePowertrain propulsion products (central electric drives, wheel/axle electric drives) Software calibration of eDrive ECU’s as part of the overall vehicle controls architecture with deep integration of subsystems such as batterie mgmt., auxiliaries mgmt. and brake control Review and comment on Customer Technical Requirements & Specifications related to controls/software/calibration in our ePowertrain application activities. Support all customer requests for controls documentation and data needed as part of their engineering release processes Develops controls engineering timelines, and maintains open issues lists on software topics. This position is responsible for the entire software product cycle in the region: new customer functional development initiatives, software development, calibration activities, prototype truck support, s/w validation, engineering release, OEM truck assembly plant support, and field troubleshooting. Represent ZF throughout software product development programs at the customer and provide guidance and/or expertise for all technical controls issues. Serve as the primary technical liaison to the customer for software functional changes and software change management processes. Provide clarification and technical explanation of ZF product specifications, calibration solutions, and component functions. Lead software program deliveries by tracking action items, calibration program timing, and software/calibration releases (including but not limited to, the creation and execution of system-level development and validation test plans, development of functional test procedures and scripting, and performance of verification testing) Lead all customer calibration analysis; troubleshoot customer issues and ensure that all calibration and testing activities are completed in order to achieve a final root cause resolution with the customer. Initiate and complete parameterization of subsystems and functions for our ePowertrain products within the overall vehicle environment and within the test laboratory. Plan and monitor the actions of customer complaints, software bugs and function enhancements. Perform root cause analysis and error correction of system-level problems relating to software and electronic control issues. Clearly and professionally communicate plans and results (reports, meetings, customer presentations, development test plans and reports, software checklists, etc.), verbally and in writing, to manager, coworkers (international & local), industry partners, and customers. Participate in department continuous-improvement activities to test and develop calibrations and control systems, improve calibrations and software solutions and data analysis techniques, and to develop new test procedures. Maintain, design, develop, and document software tools to support product development process. Position may require Product Training: 3-6mo in Germany (total over 2-5 years) - international travel requirement. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills and Experience: B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical, Computer/Software, Automotive or related field) 5 years of engineering experience in systems or hardware, controls or software, product development, testing, and/or manufacturing environment (includes co-op and/or internship experience). Experience with CV ePowertrain propulsion products (central electric drives, wheel/axle electric drives) Interdisciplinary project experience within global matrix organization Strong knowledge of technical aspects of software applications engineering and product design/development (specifically within a powertrain and/or automotive context). Experience with automotive communication links (SAE J1939; etc), powertrain/transmission controls. Proficient with data acquisition & development tools (e.g. CANalyzer, CANApe etc.) Experience in developing real-time embedded software control systems of vehicles. In-depth understanding of electromechanical systems design, troubleshooting, and repair. In-depth understanding of data acquisition, analysis and statistical methods. Experience and ability to interface with customers, cross-functional teams, and all levels of personnel/management. Able to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously. Ability to develop and convey complex technical solutions to OEM customers. Proficient with Microsoft Office software. Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to work independently manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated). English language - same level of proficiency as native-speaker. Preferred Skills and experience: Master’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or related field) 7 years of experience as a software development engineer or calibration development engineer within a powertrain development and/or manufacturing environment (specifically within truck or automotive industry) Solid knowledge of N.American Medium-Duty and Heavy-Duty truck OEMs, their products, and the technical requirements specific to N.America (Class 3-8). Deep knowledge of the technical components and control functions of Central Electric and Axle Electric transmissions and powertrains – especially for the medium duty and heavy duty truck market. Experience with N.American Class 3-8 Engines (Electric and/or Diesel) a plus. Experience with standard Engine / Transmission service tools and software. High Voltage powertrain knowledge, training, and certifications. Commercial Driver’s License: Ability/Willingness to get one within a year. Reporting to Position: N/A Initially. Could develop into a supervisory position as department grows.
