Responsibilities

The Department of Pathology at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine in Mobile is currently seeking a Pediatric Pathologist. Candidates must have and MD or DO degree or equivalent, BC/BE in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (or Anatomic Pathology), and must have completed a pediatric pathology fellowship training program. An Alabama medical license is required. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Additional information about the department is available at www.usahealthsystem.com/pathology.

The Department of Pathology serves USA Health University Hospital (Level I Trauma Center), USA Health Children's and Women's Hospital (currently building a state of art Emergency Room which will open early 2024), USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, USA Health Strada Patient Care Center, a free-standing ED, and multiple clinics throughout the greater Mobile area. In addition, USA Health Providence Hospital recently joined our health system.

The clinical laboratories of the health system perform over 3 million tests/year. The transfusion medicine section is accredited by the AABB and College of American Pathologists (CAP). This area is also responsible for providing transfusion consultation services for high-risk surgeries and ob-gyn operations. We perform approximately 40 pediatric autopsies/year and about 4000 pediatric surgical cases.

Molecular/next generation sequencing, immunohistochemistry, FISH, and electron microscopy laboratories are part of the sophisticated menu oftests available. The Department has a combined residency training program in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with 12 residents and fellowship training programs.

Mobile is a growing, family-friendly city with a vibrant downtown. It is centrally located in the Gulf Coast with a temperate climate and low cost of living. There are many cultural and outdoor activities with proximity to river and sandy beaches.
