Responsibilities:
This is limited skilled work in the operation of light automotive vehicles and/or less complex heavy equipment. An employee in a position allocated to this classification is responsible for safe operation of assigned vehicles or equipment; operating a dump, flat-bed, or similar basic truck or single chassis automotive equipment, frequently with mechanical attachments which requires the manipulation of controls on the vehicle or attachment; efficient operation and general maintenance of passenger buses for local or long distance travel; transporting personnel to and from designated places; duties may include routine maintenance of equipment and performance of light to heavy physical labor; work is performed under the supervision of a higher level technical or administrative position and is reviewed through inspections while in progress for desired results; operates dump or flat-bed trucks hauling construction and maintenance materials; operates a passenger bus; operates tractors pulling various implements and mowers; operates single chassis automotive equipment; transports supplies such as food, merchandise, mail, medicine, laundry, and other items as directed; performs manual labor incidental to the operation to which assigned; performs light maintenance such as checking and adding fuel, water, oil, and air; checking brakes; changing tires; and cleaning and washing vehicles; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; performs related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Completion of tenth school grade. Experience as a Motor Vehicle Operator may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama.
