POSITION SUMMARY

USA Lacrosse is looking for summer Interns to join our team; these will be unpaid/for credit internships.  If you are currently pursuing your bachelor’s degree and would like to jumpstart your career by gaining hands-on experience to learn about your desired career field, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.  Our summer internship program will allow you to learn from professionals in your field of study, understand their "why," work on projects where you can learn about multiple aspects of everyday business, and learn how to collaborate cross-departmentally in a fun, team-oriented environment. 

This opportunity will allow you to gain hands-on, real world business experience in an energetic, collaborative, and teamwork focused environment.  If you are looking to work for a mission-based organization, are driven and enthusiastic about supporting youth up to adult athletes, their coaches, officials, and fans, and want to work with a talented and passionate team of individuals to help grow the sport of lacrosse, keep reading.       

We have Unpaid/For-Credit internships available in the following departments:

  • Marketing & Communications - Social Media & Digital Media
  • Legal
  • Finance

 

A Typical Day Looks Like…

Essential Functions

  • Supports the department you are assigned to work with on administrative, operational, and technical projects and tasks within the scope of your ability/knowledge base. 
  • Actively analyzes processes and procedures used internally to identify areas of opportunity.  This includes making recommendations for improvement in the spirt of continuous improvement. 
  • Completes special projects as assigned by your supervisor to assist the department(s) you are working with to move Initiatives forward and gain hands-on working experience In your field of study/Interest.  This may include, but not be limited to, conducting research, analyzing data, writing documents and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and being a cross-departmental liaison to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Learn how to collaborate with peers and see the internal working environment within an organization. 
  • The opportunity to work with multiple departments within USA Lacrosse to understand what they do and how they work with other departments within the organization. 
  • Ability to meet with members of our leadership and management team to learn their “why.”
  • Opportunity to work hands on at an event hosted by USA Lacrosse at our Headquarters office. 

 

What Will Be Expected of You

  • Report to work each day you are scheduled on time, presenting yourself in a professional manner though your appearance and interactions with others.
  • Ask questions to help you learn and understand not only what you are doing, but why you are doing It. 
  • Complete a "final report" about your internship experience to Include:
    • What did you learn about USA Lacrosse.
    • What did you learn about your field of study and the responsibilities of the department you worked in.
    • Explain your roles and responsibilities and talk about any project(s) you did.
    • Reflect on skills and work habits you learned that you will take with you as you start your career.
    • Reflect on skills and work habits you learned that you will not be taking with you as you start your career.

 

Is This You…

  • Current college student working toward a Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous working experience in some capacity. 
  • Intermediate computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Enthusiastic go-getter with a “roll up your sleeves” and “get it done” attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, follow up/through skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must possess a strong “customer first” attitude.
  • Ability to exercise the appropriate level of discretion and judgment with the capability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information and materials.
  • Ability to present a professional persona and presence to build relationships and establish credibility.
  • Ability to be flexible with your work schedule, including the ability to work some nights and weekends based on event schedules.
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the need to develop and fuel the growth of the sport with diversity, inclusion, and equity in mind.   
  • Ability to align with USA Lacrosse’s Mission, Vision, and Values and Strategic Plan to support our initiatives and organizational goals.

 

Expected Hours of Work

This position works from our headquarters office in Sparks, MD and is generally expected to work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm.  You may be required to occasionally work longer hours or weekends based on our events and other business needs.  This position will between 30 and 40 hours per week.  Please note, we are unable to offer housing with our internships so you will have to have your own local housing and transportation.
