This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center. Incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of clerical support functions for the Center.

The incumbent assists students, peers, and subordinates in understanding the relevance of, and promotes the development of positive social skills among students through modeling appropriate behavior, positive intervention, and positively intervening and teaching appropriate employability skills for workplace success. Participates in the Center Behavioral Management System (BMS) and/or the Student Code of Conduct (SCC) program as necessary to insure proper workplace conduct, appearance and behavior. Sets a positive example as a role model to students by displaying appropriate etiquette, timeliness, and dress.

MAJOR DUTIES

This is a trainee position designed to prepare the incumbent to perform the duties at the full performance level GS-0303-05. Incumbent is responsible for processing all new student files using Department of Labor computerized recordkeeping system. Responsible for all required forms to be initiated for each individual student folder and placement in the appropriate file or program, to include processing current photograph using current digital software. Responsible for updating any and all student information in records as needed. Responsible for entering data into spreadsheet or database software. May revise, sort, calculate, and retrieve data from specified electronic records for reports. Maintains and accurately updates file system to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information. Accurately purges files or performs other file disposition actions in accordance with established procedures. Promptly and accurately follows procedures for sensitive document control.

Makes travel arrangements in accordance with appropriate travel regulations for new students, students departing and returning to the Center on leave, students leaving due to termination, transfer, graduation and resignation. Issues and processes clearance sheets for all student leaves and terminations. Schedules transportation utilizing the most expeditious and cost effective travel route, and arranges tickets through the appropriate sources. Responsible for maintenance of the Student Travel Imprest fund. Provides Center staff with an updated roster of students on leave and their status. Responsible for accurate processing of travel documents and maintaining accountable records. Posts and updates student earned leave records. Processes monthly travel report, which includes categorizing the tickets, totaling charges and verifying totals against documentation submitted by the travel agent to the government. Ensures refunds are received for unused tickets. Computes travel vouchers and submits documents for signature, approval and payment.

Responsible for input of student daily accountability schedule. The schedule includes vocation/education roster, education class schedule, center support services, and all off center appointments. Records all absences and interfaces information with existing computer program. May function as principal cashier for Imprest Fund and Student Payroll fund and as such is responsible for ensuring security, accountability and accurate maintenance of fund(s). Responsible for processing reimbursement vouchers and reconciliation of funds. Is responsible for Center collections and reconciliation; recording all purchases made including staff meal tickets.

Incumbent may be responsible for input and maintenance of student health records; pulling folders daily in order to schedule student appointments as directed for doctor, nurse, and mental health consultant. Responsible for mailing all lab work to appropriate vendor. Documents all off-center student appointments.

May serve as Center receptionist in the main Administration office or Medical department. Responsible for answering phones and directing calls; handling incoming and outgoing mail distributing to correct destination.

May serve as alternate for input of staff payroll and arrange official travel for Center staff. Provides guidance and leadership to students that may be assigned to the incumbent’s unit as part of a Work Based Learning program.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,373.00 - $45,982.00 per year
