The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation is searching for a Communications and Digital Engagement Strategy Lead.

This position is based in historic Annapolis at our current offices located next to the beautiful grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy. In 2023, the staff of the Alumni Association & Foundation moved into the new Fleugel Alumni Center, which was built on the banks of College Creek overlooking the Naval Academy and downtown Annapolis.

This position pays a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, and may be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, when applicable. The Communications and Digital Engagement Strategy Lead is imperative to advancing the Enterprise's objectives. This role will be instrumental in aligning messaging with the organization's mission, ensuring that communication efforts are not only impactful but also directly contribute to the realization of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation (USNA AA&F) mission. By developing and implementing strategic communication plans, the Communications and Digital Engagement Strategy Lead will enhance internal and external communication, fostering stronger connections with donors, alumni, and other stakeholders. This strategic approach will contribute to the overall success of the organization by driving unique communication engagement, building stronger connections, and optimizing fundraising initiatives.

The Communications and Digital Engagement Strategy Lead position is responsible for producing strategic direction for communications and digital engagement support of the USNA AA&F mission and telling the Naval Academy story through its alumni. This is a full time, exempt position as part of the USNA AA&F Communications Team, reporting to the Director of Digital Communications.

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Lead communications strategies for current Enterprise campaigns which support the leadership priorities of the U.S. Naval Academy. With a goal to surpass the previous campaign threshold. This includes corporate foundation relations, engagement and communication strategy, and connection/outreach initiatives with alumni community.
  • Coordination for internal and external campaign communication deliverables and solutions for the Association and Foundation.
  • Developing compelling narratives that resonate with diverse stakeholders, including donors, partners, and the broader community, to effectively communicate the U.S. Naval Academy's mission and inspire active participation in the campaigns,
  • Community manager for USNA AA&F's social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) and MyUSNA.com with a focus on brand consistency and purposeful, prepared, and timely delivery of content across platforms.
  • Assists Digital Director in ensuring all communication aligns with alumni community preferences, digital team content management, and kickoff meetings. This includes preparing coordinated efforts for digital communications requests (Guides, SOEs), participation in kickoff meetings, and assistance with delegation of digital communication requests.
  • Works with engagement team on the continued development of communication engagement initiatives, MyUSNA.com, and alumni outreach/participation.

Content

  • Develops content for social media, website, Shipmate, emails, MyUSNA, and other USNA AA&F communications as well as written strategy documents for communication director reference (Social Media Strategy, Shipmate, BBIS, Design, etc.)
  • Assistant editor for Shipmate as digital liaison to build the bridge between traditional and digital deliverables for USNA AA&F through media production and editorial strategy.

Leadership

  • Collaborates with Human Resources (HR) to serve as the internship Point of Contact (POC), orchestrating a seamless transition for interns. This involves creating a welcoming environment and providing comprehensive information about the USNA AA&F culture, workflow, and addressing any queries related to USNA and USNA AA&F.
  • Demonstrates leadership by maintaining regular check-ins with interns on a weekly basis. This proactive approach ensures continuous support, fosters open communication, and allows for the resolution of any challenges or questions that may arise during their internship. This consistent engagement contributes to a positive and enriching experience for interns within the organization.
  • Takes a leadership role in strategically engaging with interns, understanding their individual needs and goals. By fostering a supportive and communicative environment, the Communication Strategic Lead helps interns integrate into the USNA AA&F team seamlessly, promoting a collaborative culture and contributing to the overall success of the internship program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Dedication to graphic consistency, brand standards, and quality across all channels.
  • Extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite and electronic design software.
  • Proven ability to multitask, work independently, and handle a fast-paced work environment.
  • Attention to details and conscientious in adhering to deadlines and deliverables.
