Surgical Technologist at Baylor Surgicare Southlake :
- Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures
- Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment
- Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment
- Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operative with the circulating nurse.
- Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source / name of specimen with surgeon
- Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets
- Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment
- Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills

Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Surgical Technologist scrubs for surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while functioning as a member of the surgical team.
Prepares and maintains supplies, instruments and equipment related to these procedures. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Surgery Center.
Supports and participates in quality improvement activities.
Qualifications :
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Completion of an appropriate surgical technician program or previous surgical technician experience of at least one year
- Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferred
- Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed
- Must be an excellent team player and have the ability to communicate with staff, patients and physicians

Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED
- Completion of a Scrub Technician Program. Certification preferable
- Two years experience as a Scrub Tech in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- ENT experience high preferred
- General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room
