What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pre Admissions Nurse/ coordinator position at USPI?
The Preadmission Nurse has the responsibility for organizing and directing activities in accordance with nursing standards, JC, Medicare and all other applicable federal, state and local guidelines. PAT nurse may assume the following PAT responsibilities: contact, by way of telephone, all patients prior to surgery to assess medical and medication history, review for appropriate lab, x-ray, EKG orders to determine where and when these procedures are to completed and provide preadmission teaching. The nurse can expect to care for adult patients, including the older adult through geriatric, and pediatric patients 15 years or older. The RN may perform laboratory testing required prior to surgery as ordered.
1. Plans and prepared for the preadmission of the patient.
2. Meets all required deadlines. Demonstrates discretionary ability in establishing priority.
3. Delivers indirect and direct patient care according to established standards, taking into consideration the age and risk factors of the patient.
4. Possess the knowledge and ability to use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of the patient.
5. Uses nursing judgment in decision-making.
6. Acts as a patient advocate in meeting his/her physical and psychological needs.
7. Performs patient assessment and reassessment immediately upon admission and on a regular basis in accordance with standards of care with documentation of these assessments as a basis for planning each patient’s care.
8. Ensures that all nursing interventions and patients responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated and that all components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.
9. Integrates and coordinates care across settings and among disciplines.
10. Implements physician’s orders effectively and safely in accordance with standards of practice.
11. Ability to recognize and intervene in stressful situations.
12. Maintains BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications as applicable.
13. Maintains or acquires skills on equipment necessary to complete required responsibilities.
14. Documents all records according to established policies and procedures.
15. Assesses information/documents on AdvantX, maintaining patient confidentiality.
16. Assists with reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
17. Performs effectively in stressful situations to fulfill position responsibilities.
18. Provides teaching to patient/parent of child per level of understanding.
19. Performs additional duties as needed by the department.
Required Skills:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Minimum 2 year experience in a outpatient setting
- Ability to recognize, evaluates, solve problems and correct errors.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, hospital staff, physicians, vendors and the public.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, openness, receptive to change, creativity and innovative.

- Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient
