Responsibilities:
Our Tyler hospital locations is seeking a Laboratory Assistant – Support Services. We are looking for your experience, knowledge and patient care skills in our Laboratory where you will be responsible for:
- Processes incoming specimens from Nursing units, tube system and reference lab couriers. Assesses acceptability of the specimens and insures they are accurately and completely labeled and prepared.
Responsible for timely delivery of specimens into testing departments.
Coordinates workflow for priority specimen collection (STAT, ASAP, client special requests), including paging phlebotomists and assigning priority draws to phlebotomy team.
Performs Laboratory Customer Service Inquiry functions.
Assists other departments with Laboratory test order/requirement questions.
Performs receptionist duties for outpatients and Laboratory visitors.
Coordinates Laboratory and section’s record filing and storage activities.
Responsible for routine bi-hourly specimen pick up rounds throughout the hospital.
Responsible for Laboratory mail pickup and delivery and coordination of supply delivery.
Understands the Laboratory Compliance Plan and follows its policies in day-to-day work. Communicates issues/information regarding compliance as defined in the compliance plan.
Coordinates accurate ordering, tracking, and transport of specimens to reference laboratories.
Participates in Laboratory Continuing Education Program. Maintains competence.
