Job Summary
The Department of Molecular Biology is seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Technician to join the laboratory of Dr. Lu Sun to study neuron-glia interactions in the nervous system. The Research Technician will be directly involved in an exciting, on-going project in understanding the communications between neurons and myelinating glia. The primary responsibility of the candidate is to perform histology and primary cell culture. Other responsibilities include assistance in basic molecular biology and biochemistry experiments, as well as maintenance of mouse colony.
Candidates must be comfortable in handling of laboratory mice.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related fields, hands-on experience working in a research lab, willing to handle laboratory mice and perform primary cell culture and tissue collection. Additionally, the candidate should be detail-oriented and have excellent team-working skills, as well as being able to work independently if needed. Must be motivated to learn new skills.
Experience and Education
Completion of two (2) years of college or specialized training in histology, medical technology, or relevant field and one (1) year experience as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
High school graduation including courses in basic sciences such as physics, chemistry, biology, etc., and three (3) years of laboratory experience including two years as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
Job Duties
- Assists in conducting experiments and working on research problems in such fields as physiology, bacteriology, tissue culture, chemistry and other related fields by performing basic, routine, and least complex procedures as prescribed by supervisor.
- Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Records resulting data in accordance with established methods.
- Confers with supervisor concerning results obtained and modifies procedures in accordance with instruction of supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
