The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands (FFSL), has one seasonal position available working with state-owned sovereign lands in the Bear River Area (primarily at Bear Lake, but also Bear River and Great Salt Lake). This is a 40-hour per week position that will generally last from the beginning of May to early September (flexible) but may be extended later into the fall on a part-time basis.
Examples of Duties
This position is responsible for a wide variety of duties related to management of sovereign land resources at Bear Lake, Bear River and Great Salt Lake. Examples include:
- Collecting data regarding recreational use, vegetation, structures and other attributes.
- Assisting in management of various noxious and invasive weed species.
- Educating visitors about sovereign land resources and related rules/regulations.
- Potential to assist with various projects – such as new parking areas, recreational access points, informational signage, outreach materials, or others – depending on skills/abilities.
- Assistance in permitting process and documentation of activities or structures.
- Additional duties may include collaboration with agency partners such as Division of Wildlife, State Parks and Recreation, Rich County, etc.
- Assisting with other FFSL program areas (Forestry, Fire and Wildland Urban Interface)
Job Requirements and Skills
- Driver’s license and availability to work most weekends and holidays during summer.
- Ability to perform physical work in widely varying terrain and weather conditions (walking, sitting, standing, lifting, paddling, etc.
- Ability to work independently in a tourism/natural resources environment with limited direct supervision. Good people skills and the ability to listen to, inform, and work with the public in anon-confrontational manner are an absolute necessity.
- Ability to operate ATVs, UTVs, motorboats, and small watercraft is highly desirable – some training will be provided as needed

Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
