Overview

As a social media assistant, you will be a key part of promoting USU Moab. You will use social media to regularly engage our community, current students and potential new students with the information they need. The ultimate goal of this position is to increase awareness of the impact that USU Moab has on our students and our community. Required technology will be provided.

Responsibilities

Social Media Management

  • Depict student life in an authentic format by capturing and publishing no less than 3 photos and/or videos per platform (e.g., Face Book, Instagram and YouTube) per week showcasing the Aggie Student Experience including campus event coverage, hands-on education activities, holiday messages, campus and regional landscapes etc.
  • Work with regional marketing manager, campus administration, faculty, and staff to develop a calendar of weekly content opportunities that demonstrate campus impact and pitch larger stories for further content development.
  • Collaborate with campus staff to respond to questions and comments that arise on the platforms.
  • Proactively research, cross promote and engage with (e.g., comment, like, share) relevant content from current students, followers, external pages and partners to increase reach.
  • Proactively research and implement social media updates and features to assess and increase relevancy and better engage with students and alumni. (e.g., Instagram & Facebook stories, live videos, swipe up feature, hashtags).
  • Create opportunities for students and alumni to engage with the campus by identifying and adding campus groups, job opportunities, events, and reviews, polls, etc. to the Facebook page.
  • Identify, create expectations, and work with ambassadors in the community and on campus to highlight their involvement with Utah State University.

Grassroots/Community Relations

  • Actively promote USU in non-academic/recruitment related community events to capture Aggie involvement of students, alumni, faculty and industry partners (e.g., Weed and Feed, Puttin' on the Ritz, Festival del Día de Muertos, Electric Light Parade, etc.).
  • Identify opportunities to demonstrate value and community impact and represent campus as needed.
  • Generate campus media directory highlighting faculty expertise to provide to news media.
  • Other Duties As Assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Collaborative, proactive, team-based attitude.
  • Attention to detail and motivation to learn.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic photography and/or videography skills
  • Flexible schedule to be available for at least 10 hours but no more than 20 hours a week, often outside standard business hours
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to anticipate next steps or need
  • Reliable

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Current student (full time or part-time)
  • Familiarity with key social media tools (e.g., Facebook Business Manager, Instagram, Canva, other publishing apps) and Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Pursuing a degree in business, marketing, communications or an interest in social media or reputation management
  • Eligible for Work Study

    Advertised Salary

    $12.00 per hour

    Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
