Responsibilities In consultation with a member of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), establish and implement strategic goals and objectives for UTs Biosafety program. Review protocols, perform risk assessments and recommendations to IBC. In addition to the IBC, support activities of various committees such as the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee ( IACUC ) and the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Evaluates spaces performing biological work utilizing biosafety policies, NIH Guidelines for Research Involving rDNA, Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, regulatory bodies, and monitor compliance with Select Agent and Toxins regulation. Provide recommendations to improve laboratory security. Develop and administer training programs. Prepare technical reports including revisions to biosafety manuals, emergency plans, and standard operating procedures. Deliver training. Review and approve inbound "material transfer agreements" for biological materials and ensure IBC authorization has been granted for the specific laboratory. Respond to biosafety emergencies, perform thorough investigations, and complete associated reporting. Act as a primary contact for regulatory agencies in matters involving biological work. Drive UT vehicle. Maintains acceptable driving record as required by UT System Policy UTS157. Supervisory role. Perform other duties as assigned. Responds to emergencies on campus. Considered essential personnel to campus and a trusted official. Required Qualifications Master's degree in Biology, Applied or Basic Science, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. At least three years of experience with disease causing pathogens. At least two years of working within a laboratory. At least one year of health and safety experience (protocol reviews, risk assessments, lab inspections, lab design reviews, dual use, etc.). Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications PhD in biological science with four years of biological laboratory experience. At least three years of experience with disease causing pathogens. At least two years of health and safety experience (protocol reviews, risk assessments, lab inspections, lab design reviews, dual use, IACUC etc.). Driving Required The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
