What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical School Admissions and Student Affairs Coordinator I position at UTHealth Houston Careers?
The Office of Admissions and Student Affairs at McGovern Medical School is seeking to identify an enthusiastic, energetic and goal and outcomes driven coordinator to support our Academic Success Initiatives Program and Wellness and Resilience Program. These two programs serve as vehicles to deliver direct and deliberate platforms to support student progression to degree completion while teaching resilience fostering behaviors to help future physicians not only reach their fullest potential but to also maintain wellness during the rigors of the medical education continuum. We are invested in training physician-leaders who are well educated and armed with the proper tools to address their own stress and burnout. Students who are WELL are better able to perform optimally in the academic arena and to practice medicine.
This position involves coordinating, supporting, organizing and delivering essential professional student services across 3 areas: Academic Success Initiatives including Tutor support, Career Advising and Wellness Programs housed in the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs, under the direction of the Deans & Program Directors.
We prefer applicants who have had experience in an academic setting that revolves around higher education. Post graduate is an even larger asset to have. It would also be helpful if this experience was in a scientific setting, as all of our students are engaged in the pursuit of medical field studies. The key to success will be a strong sense of organization, and an ability to follow-through. You will be helping to set up meetings for students as they advance through their education at UTHealth. These will include creating necessary follow-up communications, and tracking results of these sessions. We need someone who can work in a consultative manner with students, so it will be helpful to have had experience with adults in education. Data is also a key for the coordinator. You will be tasked on creating spreadsheets to track progress of participants, and be able to analyze and create reports.
Central to this role is ensuring that there is respect for confidentiality and maintenance of balance of responsibilities across the three key areas.
