Research Assistant I - Neurology (Biobank)

Full-time nonexempt position in Neurology (Biobank). Under general direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support clinical data collection at several Memorial Hermann Hospital sites (TMC, Southwest, Memorial City) as well as outpatient settings. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices.

POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Conducts research activities, under general direction, according to research. Research activities may include some or all of the following: patient screening and recruiting including obtaining consent, drawing blood from patients in a hospital and outpatient setting, traditional laboratory experiments and activities, data entry, data quality assurance and control, conducting telephone or in person follow up with patients and administering simple clinical scales

2. Works with physicians and research team to identify possible patients to enroll and consent to study. Requires positive communication with clinical care teams.

3. Makes follow-up phone calls to patients enrolled in study for outcome data. May involve administering simple clinical / outcome scales over the telephone or in person.

Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
