What are the responsibilities and job description for the Biosafety Specialist - Provost Administration position at UTMB Health?
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or life sciences or related field or equivalent and one year of experience. Must pass the UTMB Department of Justice Level 3 clearance.
Job Summary:
Provides professional knowledge and expertise in the operation and support of Biosafety programs in compliance with regulatory agencies, national guidelines, and institutional policies.
Job Duties:
- Develop systems that prevent problems from arising.
- Directly interacts with faculty and other Institutional Support groups to achieve the desired outcome.
- Provides input on facility construction and renovation projects related to biosafety issues. Directly interacts with contractors and architects and influences outcomes based on technical expertise.
- Supports and directly participates in committee activities with regulatory bodies.
- Troubleshoots technical issues involving knowledge of research projects and works directly to intervene and obtain safe work practices.
- Achieves results with minimal coaching.
- Review safety manuals and policies and make recommendations based on regulatory or institutional changes.
- Review NOUs in preparation for submission to the IBC and faculty responses to the IBC.
- Assist new investigators in setting up their research laboratory
- Administers contracted services that include coordination with contractors and negotiations of contract specifications.
- Act as a mentor to other team members within EHS as related to biosafety and infectious waste disposal.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Performs related duties as required.
Salary Range:
$75,000.00 to $87,000.00, actual salary commensurate with experience.
