Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Piano Accompanist to join our liberal religious community. The ideal candidate will have a passion for music, and the ability to accompany the choir and congregational singing during Sunday worship services and occasional special worship services.

Responsibilities:

• Provides piano and/or organ music for the 10 am Sunday morning service during the forty (40) weeks of the regular church year (Sunday after Labor Day to the second Sunday in June), and on Christmas Eve (two services).
• Selects piano/organ music that deepens the experience of the worship theme and helps provide an organic bridge between worship elements. Whenever possible, the worship leaders will offer input about the desired effect of the music.
• Accompanies adult choir rehearsals on Sunday mornings (9 – 9:45 am), and Thursday evenings (7 – 8:30 pm) during the regular church year. Communicates with the choir director about the selection of choir music.
• Arranges for substitute accompanist to cover absences during rehearsals or Sunday worship in coordination with the Choir Director.
• Rehearses with and accompanies soloists and other musicians participating in the worship service.
• Supports the cultivation and use of musical talent within the congregation.
• Helps identify guest instrumentalists for participation in worship.
• Manages the maintenance of all pianos on the church campus.
• Provides piano or organ music for weddings and memorial services, Sunday morning Summer Services, and Sunday evening Taizé services (1st Sunday of the month from October to April) or assists in securing the services of a suitable substitute.

Schedule:

Sept to mid-June: Sunday mornings & Thursday evenings, plus occasional other times. Expected to average 8.5 hours per week.

Summer: Sunday mornings only

Qualifications:

- A degree in Organ/Piano, or comparable experience, and training and experience sufficient to carry out the essential functions.
