Assistant Instructional Professor

JOB PURPOSE:   

The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) of the University of Wyoming includes 10 departments and the newly formed School of Computing. The College prides itself on research innovation, teaching excellence, industrial engagement, and broader societal impact. With a significantly increased budget, we have embarked on a transformational journey to become a Tier-1 Institution, recognized nationally for academic excellence and world-class research. This includes new state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated funding for research initiatives. We are hiring a cohort of new faculty across the College, and we seek to attract a diverse and inclusive group of talented early-stage faculty and established researchers.

The Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a full-time Assistant Instructional Professor position beginning Spring 2024. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefitted position at the University of Wyoming campus.

The department has established a new course-based Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Energy and Petroleum Engineering which will be offered for on campus and remote delivery options. The successful candidate is expected to develop and teach a wide range of courses in the areas of energy and petroleum engineering for both undergrad and graduate students. This requires a strong passion and interest in teaching and interacting with students. 

The selected candidate will join a successful and well-established program with access to excellent facilities and resources, including the UW support for developing fully online courses, which is part of the responsibilities of this job. The selected candidate will have an excellent opportunity to collaborate with other faculty, research staff and industry partners, as well as with government and regulatory agencies. 

The Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering consists of a diverse and inclusive group of 13 faculty and approximately 110 students. We offer ABET-accredited B.S. programs in Petroleum Engineering. The Department also offers graduate programs in Energy and Petroleum Engineering at the Masters and Ph.D. levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Candidates are sought with expertise in Energy Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. The duties of the position are:

• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses (both in-person and remote delivery modes) in Energy and Petroleum Engineering, typically three courses per semester. Some areas of course development and teaching may include geothermal energy, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), hydrogen production, storage and transportation.
• Perform service to the Department, College and University as required.

This is mainly a teaching-based position with no or minimum amount of research duties. The percentage of the teaching, research and service work will be determined according to the needs of the Department and may vary from one to another year. 

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Ph.D. in Energy or Petroleum Engineering or related areas,
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills,
• Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate and graduate Energy and Petroleum Engineering courses at the university level.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

•  Professional work experience in related areas to Energy and Petroleum Engineering. 
• Past teaching or industry experiences in areas related to geothermal energy, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), hydrogen production, storage and transportation.
• Familiarity with software tools commonly used in Energy and Petroleum Engineering. 
• Ability and desire to develop additional courses related to Production and Completion and develop the current labs in this area.
• Flexibility in teaching other related courses as required by the Department.
