Pooled Position Monthly Upward Bound Summer Program 2024 Academic Liaison

JOB TITLE:   

Upward Bound Summer Program 2024 Academic Liaison

JOB PURPOSE:   

Provide adequate and appropriate academic supports to project participants residing in the residence halls;

Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills;

Ability to maintain confidentiality 

Dates of summer program (including training) are May 29^th-July 2^nd 2024

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

-Reside in the UW residence halls 7 days a week for the duration of the summer program May 29th-July 2^nd 2024

- Assist participants in overcoming obstacles to achieving their academic and/or personal goals while promoting college access and success.

- Create a safe environment for participants and staff to discuss concerns, receive feedback, and deal with issues that may be preventing participant success. 

- Discuss consequences of behavior with participants when violations are issued.

- Work with Student Success Navigator to facilitate participant stress relief and help to ease transition issues as needed.

-  Assist with participant supervision.

- Attend academic and residential staff meetings and communicate relevant information to staff in each area.

· Actively participate in participants’ academic success, including, but not limited to, periodically attending classes, mentoring, helping with homework and checking on completion.

-Work with Academic Coordinator and academic staff to identify participants in need of extra assistance and plan and facilitate additional study time as needed

-Aid in planning and instruction for Standardized Test Prep course on Fridays 1pm-3pm.

-Attend all study Halls Mon-Wed. 3pm-5pm

- Lead development and enforcement of academic and behavioral expectations during study periods.

- Coordinate and implement supplemental academic resources for participants requiring additional support.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

- Senior standing at the undergraduate level in Education, Social Work, or Psychology; student in good academic standing 

-Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

-Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, or Psychology.

- Ability to be on-call to respond to and academically assist participants on evenings and weekends for the duration of the summer program

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a UW Motor Vehicle Record check for professional travel is required

- Successful criminal background check necessary for working with minors is required

- Current certification in First Aid and CPR is required, and will be provided during training week.
