Position Description: Building Construction Estimator

This position is a fulltime, in-office position, for our location in Pennington, NJ. This person reports to the Vice President of Estimating. A member of the Estimating and Pre-Construction Team that represents the company to clients, customers, contractors and vendors in analyzing construction costs and mastering constructability of buildings. Responsible for our company’s commitments and promoting the interests of V. J. Scozzari & Sons, Inc. in all matters and at all times.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Analyze bid documents, contractor and vendor proposals to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates for construction projects.
• Prepare Subcontractor/Vendor bid lists fitting the scope of work associated with the projects
• Perform conceptual estimating and prepare budget and early stage estimates.
• Research and evaluate subcontractors based on price, quality, selection, service, support, etc.
• Solicit subcontractor/material supplier bid proposals.
• Perform quantity and labor take-off from bid documents / on-screen construction documents / 3D models.
• Prepare trade scope sheets based upon project specific requirements.
• Interact with subcontractors in order to compare work scope and project costs.
• Interact with designers and engineers to develop constructability techniques and understand construction costs.
• Provide assistance with updating company databases for Vendors / Subcontractors / Unit Prices.
  
  

Position Skills & Requisites Requirements

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in public & private construction including educational, healthcare, commercial, & institutional.
• Excellent estimating skills
• Excellent technical and IT skills including but not limited to the following:
• Sage/Timberline Estimating, etakeoff, OST, Procore P6
• MS Office 365
• Experience and expertise as a Building Construction Estimator
• Coordination within the Estimating Department in the assembly of Bid Packages and Scopes of Work
• Perform various other duties and take on other responsibilities, as required
  
  

Other Considerations

• Experience with or exposure to VDC/BIM, through the use of Autodesk Design Suite with a willingness to gain further knowledge and training.
• Knowledge and experience in sustainability in construction
• Most Projects are located in New Jersey and Eastern PA, however some travel may be required
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferred in Construction, Engineering or similar
