What are the responsibilities and job description for the IAE 1st Class position at Valero?
The 12 hours rotating shift I/E/A technician is the first responder to operations requests for Instrument, Electrical and Analyzer help during assigned shift including nights, weekends and holidays. Must be able to make sound decisions about troubleshooting and repairs during critical and/or abnormal conditions while upholding Valero’s core safety standards and procedures. There is a big emphasis on self-reliance while being able to determine when the task requires to call for assistance or higher expertise. Must be flexible with work schedule as refinery demands may require additional coverage. Strong background in either electrical, instrumentation or analyzer required.
- Performs visual inspections of all CEMS and environmental compliance analyzers by themselves on weekends and holidays.
- Repairs, maintains, and installs electrical systems and equipment following all safety procedures, electrical codes, manuals, schematic drawings, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Demonstrates knowledge of basic grounding and shielding, electricity, and electrical wiring and raceway systems.
- Uses basic electrical meters and equipment to test equipment.
- Maintains and repairs various types of electrical components.
- Performs work activities in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
- Maintains and repairs electronic and pneumatic instrumentation.
- Possesses a basic understanding and application of instrumentation math, and units of measurement. Demonstrates knowledge of flow, pressure, temperature, and level instrumentation.
- Maintains and troubleshoots various types of solenoid valves, switches, meters, indicators, and temperature sensors.
- Uses test equipment and performs routine calibrations. Demonstrates ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, and wiring schematics.
- Performs all other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
- Effectively communicates all daily activities to supervision.
This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years’ combined refinery/plant maintenance experience working with instrument, electrical, or analyzer equipment or a technical degree in any of the related crafts.
- Must be able to write a standard paragraph and perform basic mathematics required.
- Must be able to read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawing and electrical one lines drawing required.
- Ability to organize, and execute work in a safe and environmentally sound manner and have good written and verbal communications skills.
- Thorough knowledge of all plant safety, operations and environmental policies and procedures required.
- Will be required to certify in one of the refinery 1st class positions in electrical, instrumentation, or analyzer classifications
