Job Goal
The Mill Supervisor is responsible for training, equipping, and empowering the Mill Department staff to achieve on time shipments safely and efficiently. The lead typically supervises the activity of 5-7 employees.
Duties And Responsibilities
In addition, it is the responsibility and goal of all employees at Valley Rubber to live and implement the vision and mission of the company:
- Communicating with the shift leads/ Supervisor's to properly schedule rubber for the floor for that day and upcoming shifts to be as efficient as possible.
- Train and coach department employees towards Peak Performers, including identifying needed training and reaching out to appropriate departments for training. Monitor and measure employee development and growth through performance management and development process.
- Participate in selecting and hiring staff along with HR (Human Resources) and other production leaders.
- Handle employee scheduling including managing and reporting time off requests and approvals in the Mill Department
- Effectively communicate with shift leaders on opposite shifts and within different departments about problems, scheduling changes, rush orders, and any bad parts.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment. Identify needs for productions safety supplies and distribute them as needed.
- Plan and staff the mill operation for the department: workstation assignments/rotations, vacations, breaks, and back-up plan for absent employees. Conduct Start of Shift meeting to relay issues that have arisen in the past shifts to employees.
- Follow and enforce milling needs based on scheduling board and complete any missing schedule or discrepancy by following up with Scheduler. Set clear expectations for acceptable production output and hold staff accountable.
- Educate employees about the importance of correct tool usage, and ensure all tools are company approved.
- Conduct new hire mill training including safety and follow-up.
- Correct mill process when problems arise.
- Consult with Manufacturing Manager, Project Engineer, or Plant Manager if problems persist.
- Make certain all needed materials (i.e., job travelers and procedures, tools, etc.) are available and correct and delivered in a timely manner to mill assistants or operators.
- Communicate with Purchasing for all raw material so that they are ordered for timely delivery and all customer commitments are met.
- Complete necessary paperwork associated with incidents and accidents and alert Safety Coordinator.
- Communicate with the lab about all materials to ensure the make-up is accurate for milling
- Verify all paperwork is completed timely and accurately by staff.
Qualifications And Requirements
- Experience in a position demonstrating effective communication skills.
- Must be available for overtime and work weekends when necessary.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment while in the plant.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
Working Conditions
The employee must have the ability to stand for up to 8 hours a day (5:00 am - 3:30 pm). The ability to lift 75 pounds is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Company policy requires the use of safety equipment including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, protective sleeves, cutting gloves, and safety toe shoes.
Position Type And Expected Hours Of Work
This is a full-time position and hours of work. Some weekends, evening hours, night hours, and call outs are sometimes necessary.
