The primary purpose of the OB Tech/Birth Certificate Processor position is to assist the Registered Nurse and Physician with the delivery and care of mothers and infants. Performs various duties related to the Labor and Delivery unit in accordance with established Hospital Policies and Procedures.
Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possibly taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, eating, and ambulation.
Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
The OB Technician assists with the daily unit activities to include but not limited to:Answering patient call lights and notifying the RN of the patient's needs and/or care providedMonitoring visitors for access to the OB unit through the security doors/system.Ensures infant security systems are initiated immediately after birthCalling physician's offices for patient prenatal/histories for scheduled proceduresMust have knowledge of sterile technique and be able to set up a delivery table for the physician.Assists the RN with laboring patients and Cesarean SectionsAssists the RN in care and bathing of the infant and mother after deliveries.Performs maternal and newborn glucose checks and reports findings to the RN.Performs infant hearing screens prior to discharge.Sanitizes infant warmers, labor tables and instruments and tocometers after deliveries/procedures.Cleans IV poles and equipment used during deliveries/proceduresStocks supplies in rooms, labor tables, nursery, infant warmers and bassinets.Orders infant formula and continuously rotates the stock so expired products can be removed.Birth Certificate Duties: collects data from delivered patients to register the birth of the newborn with vital records department.Draws up Paternity papers when needed to accompany the birth registration.Every effort has been made to make this job description as complete as possible. Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent x Preferred
Required Skills/Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) (American Heart Association)-RequiredMust obtain within 30 days if BLS is not with American Heart AssociationX Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification NRP-Required within 1 year of hireX STABLE Program Certification-Preferred
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Minimum Work Experience
One (1) year C NA experience preferred
Required Licenses
[Arizona, United States] Nursing Assistant
Valid Arizona Certified Nursing Assistant's (CNA) or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) Licensure from an accredited school.
