A Brief Summary of This Position This position is an individual contributor top Concrete Finisher role that is responsible for preparing finished product to customer specification for storage and shipment. Perform a variety of tasks including placing, finishing, protecting and repairing concrete. The incumbent will primarily be a subject matter expert in major cosmetics repairs. Essential Functions MAJOR COSMETIC REPAIRS: Subject matter expert in major cosmetic repairs and preparation of the pole per customer specification to include, but not limited to the following: working with epoxy and fixing major issues; arc gauging; reading blueprints; cut poles; help rigging and loading trucks; train new employees; actively identifies and reduces waste within responsible department - demonstrated via Gemba tracking; safely operate a concrete chop saw for rework purposes; correctly preform rework on errors or non-conformities per the engineered drawing to meet customer specification; break down (locate) pipes and platforms in the concrete pole per the engineered drawing; drill a replacement PCI insert into the concrete pole; install the appropriate galvanize cap on to the concrete pole per the customer specification (flat or cone); use the arc gouger to safely burn back strands approximately 1/4 at the bottom of pole; make and apply a smooth finished grout cap to the bottom of pole for aesthetic reasons; use the plasma cutter to safely burn back strands approximately 1/4 at the tip of pole to prepare for galvanized cap; identify ground location; care of hand tools. Leads 5S and Gemba board discussions; able to train others. Patch, repair, and clean finished product. Operate rigging accordingly with the company’s policies. Set up and attach loads to rigging, hoists, and pulling gear to provide support or prepare the, for moving, using hand and power tools. Able to operate industrial mobile equipment and dismantle and store rigging equipment after use. Manipulate rigging lines, hoists and pulling gear to move or support materials such as concrete utility poles and heavy equipment. Direct employees engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials. Report noticed defects and faults to management. Conduct strenuous and physically demanding task for long hours and in extreme environmental conditions. Gather, inspect, repair and replace reusable materials and components for production rotation. Compliance with the general OHS and fire safety instructions and workplace instructions. Demonstrates good safety practices; performs monthly safety audits. Clean general work area and ensure equipment, tools and materials are properly stored. Other duties assigned by the management staff. Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) High School Diploma or GED is highly desirable but not required Basic English comprehension (Reading and Writing) A minimum of one year of experience as a Finisher 1 One year of general labor experience preferably in a manufacturing environment or willing to learn The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a professional manner The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions The ability to work overtime as needed The ability to work in extreme temperatures with exposure to chemicals and irritating particulates The ability to recognize and solve practical problems Able to operate handheld electrical tools Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications High School Diploma or GED More than one year of general labor experience preferably in a manufacturing environment Experience in working with concrete or in a similar manufacturing environment Educational Background Must have basic mathematical skills to be able to work with decimals and fractions; tape measurement skills, and ability to measure using metric and standard system. The ability to read, write and follow non-complex instructions (reading floor prints and blueprints). Job Training Skill Development In addition to the above, the incumbent should have a basic understanding to make most necessary decisions within three months and have total comprehension of the job within one year. Decision Making The incumbent must be able to voice concerns and provide feedback on all production, quality, and safety issues regarding the scope this position. Physical Effort Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable. Able to balance; bend/stoop; climb stairs; crawl; crouch; climb ladders; kneel; push/pull; reach above shoulder; repetitive motion; squat and feel. Complete repetitive movements. Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable. Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds. Requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/air conditions and around dust. Exposure to hazards in the work environment such as chemicals, oil, power industrial vehicles Mental and Visual Effort Continuous mental and/or visual attention for sustained period where the workflow is repetitive, and the operator requires constant alertness. Concentrated and exacting mental and visual attention involving planning and the setting up of complex work. Working Conditions Requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat and cold, wet and humid, and dry air conditions and around dust. Hazards Personal protective equipment is required to be worn at all times in the performance of this position as indicated by Valmont corporate and local policy.
