A Brief Summary of This Position: This position is responsible for executing the environmental and sustainability program at the Valley, Nebraska facility. This includes coordinating with all area management teams to ensure compliance with Valmont’s Environmental & Sustainability Playbooks and all applicable federal, state, and local environmental requirements as well as managing site wide sustainability programs. Duties include the timely maintenance and submittal of environmental permits including those required for storm water discharge, Title V air permitting and NESHAP compliance, RCRA hazardous-waste labeling, handling, storage, and reporting including Form R and Tier II submittals and DOT hazardous waste manifest preparation. The person in this role is responsible for developing sustainability metrics and performance measures and coordinating meetings, agenda, and implementation of Valley Green Team activities. The incumbent assists, as needed, with other sustainability projects throughout the company and trains facility personnel as it relates to regulatory compliance, the environmental playbook, and its applications. This position supports ongoing remediation and management of two closed waste treatment lagoons and other historical environmental liabilities at the site. The Environmental Manager is responsible for the safe, regulatory compliant and efficient hazardous waste yard serving the Valley site and supervises the Hazardous Waste Yard Technician. Essential Functions: This position reports into Corporate Director of Environmental Responsibility and has one direct report This role requires up to 5% domestic travel, including overnight stays On site position - must be able to work in the office and plant site and support local operations Compliance with Nebraska’s safe drinking regulations as it relates to the two on site production drinking water wells Inspection, sampling, documentation (DMR’s) requirements of Stormwater and NPDES Permits Inspection and documentation of excavation activities (Post Closure) Plan updates, inspections and compliance with NESHAP and SPCC regulations Water sampling, inspection and compliance of Title 118, AOC and AOAS Evaluates and develops waste minimization efforts to reduce waste volume and costs. Oversight of the Hazardous Waste Storage Yard and other waste management operations, including bulk shipments and wastewater evaporator. Responsible hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal activities including sampling/profiling waste materials. Supports department budget by tracking, evaluating, and performing analysis as it relates to the work order system Correspond with outside agencies (local, state, federal) concerning environmental regulatory activities at the Valley site Maintain compliance with NEDEQ RCRA Post Closure Permit Part I and II, Title 128, and Title 118 Other Important Details about the Role: The Incumbent reports to the Corporate Director of Environmental Responsibility; maintaining and developing environmental standards for the Valley site as well as overseeing the day-to-day duties of Waste Material Handler and the Valley Hazardous Waste Yard. The incumbent is responsible for executing the environmental program at the Valley, Nebraska facility consistent with the Valmont Environmental Playbook and supporting sustainability programs at the site as well. Responsibilities include evaluations, inspections, sampling, investigations, and corrective actions to those elements. The position is responsible for evaluating new processes, developing sustainability metrics and performance measures for the site. As a result of the activities involved with the Valley site, this position has a strong dotted line to the Shared Services Facility Manager and must coordinate with other site wide area managers. The incumbent assists, as needed, with other sustainability projects within the company. This position assists in the development of tools to help comply with environmental regulations and provides training to site facility personnel as it relates to regulatory compliance and its applications. Working Environment and Physical Efforts: Work is typically performed in an office setting with regular contact with Valley Plant Site. While visiting the manufacturing areas of the plant, use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is always required. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. This position may require lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, pivoting, reaching, standing, climbing stairs, handling, gripping, grasping and visually inspecting equipment. Overall, the physical effort level is considered light. Heavy equipment can be moved with a dolly or the aid of a hoist. Movement of heavy equipment is rare. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment.
