What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Men’s Basketball Athletic Trainer position at Valparaiso University?
Position Description:
This position will work with the men's basketball team. Work as part of the Sports Medicine team to facilitate the care of student-athletes. Evaluation of illnesses, injuries, and course of action. Assist in coordinating appropriate medical personnel coverage and travel with assigned teams for away competition. Serve as a liaison for the medical care and well-being between student-athletes, coaches, physicians, healthcare providers, and sports medicine staff. Update and maintain accurate medical records for individual student-athletes including medical history, physical exam forms, daily injury reports, and progress notes. Responsible for the operation and implementation of preseason physicals.
Major Responsibilities:
- Injury Treatment and Evaluation
- Travel with team
- Practice and game coverage
- Post treatment/ Rehab/ Doctor appointments
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Master's degree
- BOC certified
- Indiana license or ability to obtain
- CPR/First aide
- Prior athletic training at the collegiate level helpful
