What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Alliance Management position at VBI Vaccines?

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Director, Alliance Management to develop, manage, strengthen and nurture existing strategic alliances and partnerships; as well as forge new business alliances and collaborations as they may arise. Based in our Cambridge office and reporting to the SVP Business Development, the Director will draw on strong business and operational savvy, superior project management, and excellent facilitation skills to collaborate with both external partners and internal cross-functional teams to ensure activities are coordinated, communication flows, core competencies maximized and resources leveraged in alignment with strategic priorities, program goals and agreements.


In this role you will…


  • Champion existing alliances and actively seek out new collaborations for funding opportunities, partnering, licensing, joint ventures or acquisitions in line with our strategic objectives and program evolution
  • In collaboration with the SVP, Business Development and other team members, quickly develop a sound understanding of our industry in order to gather competitive intelligence in order to identify and support new business development activities which may be of strategic importance and in alignment with our corporate goals
  • Continuously foster new and enhance existing relationships with partners, influencers, and governments for the ongoing evolution of program strategies
  • Develop an intimate understanding of existing partnership agreements, carefully monitor commitments to ensure desired outcomes are achieved, value is realized and/or enhanced and provide an overall analysis and alliance programs
  • Unite research and development initiatives with partnering organizations to ensure activities are milestone driven, coordinated, proactive communication flows, timely decisions are made and resources are leveraged to achieve the collective goals of the alliance
  • Establish and co-ordinate communication schedule with partners to review ongoing business activities, identify new opportunities, inform of new developments, and when necessary, negotiate to improve or modify terms
  • Work closely with internal team and functional leaders to establish durable agreements, prepare for key engagements, and manage escalation when needed
  • Continually evaluate, measure, analyze and report on collaboration success, potential risks or new opportunities
  • Develop and implement partnering strategy and lead qualification based on external analysis and alignment with corporate strategy
  • Complete detailed business & competitive analysis on key players in the vaccine industry as well as a comprehensive market analysis
  • Research, compile and integrate competitive business information within the industry, including a list of new potential partners
  • Participate in term sheet and contract negotiation
  • Lead effective reporting and analytics to enable proper decisions
  • Maintain contact with relevant external stakeholders through different forums, events, channels
  • Establish and track the alignment of growth initiatives and business development plans by keeping abreast of industry trends & interests.

The ideal candidate will have…


  • BSc degree along with an MBA (preferred)
  • 3-5 years’ experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, ideally with vaccine or immunology experience. Experience can be a combination of industry related alliance management and program management or scientific roles.
  • Must currently live in or be willing to relocate to Boston area
  • Proven ability to meet milestones and deadlines through superior time management and project management skills, including prioritizing, identifying high-value activities, managing expectations and delivering on commitment
  • Superior interpersonal skills to develop important relationships with key stakeholders and drive effective outcomes and problem resolution
  • Strong influencing, diplomacy and negotiation skills and able to work at peer-level with scientific, medical and commercial experts
  • Able to succinctly communicate strategic advantages required to implement plan(s) in accordance with strategic objectives
  • Forward thinking with demonstrable “can do” attitude, flexibility and perseverance to roll-up sleeves to chart a path and deliver on strategic goals
  • Strong analytical and scientific mind set to effectively evaluate business opportunities
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent leadership and management skills able to operate within a matrix structure across multi-functional teams
