Our activities include advising developers on real estate developments, particularly developments providing affordable housing or serving other community development needs; providing equity investments based on the availability of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, and New Markets Tax Credits; providing loans and other capital for housing, community, and economic development; and in supporting partners in managing compliance and solving operational issues for developments and in bolstering partner organizational capacity.

Through strategic financial investments and advisory services, VCDC empowers community developers to bring life-changing projects to fruition, creating strong, vibrant communities for residents across Virginia and in surrounding states.

The Position

The Asset Management Coordinator will join VCDC’s Asset Management Team in supporting our network of affordable housing partners in operating affordable rental housing communities. Responsibilities include communication with external partners, management of systems, coordination of key Team activities, and preparation of internal and external reports.

Office Coordinator Essential Job Functions

Quarterly Reporting Support (50% of position’s time)

  • Monitor and manage information received from property partners in support of VCDC’s evaluation of property performance and preparation of quarterly reporting, including, among other duties:
  • Prepare and distribute notifications and be actively involved in the quarterly reporting process;
  • Send notification to partners regarding industry changes and updates;
  • Manage the department email account, highlighting questions or concerns for Asset Managers and saving relevant documents to VCDC shared drive, including general ledgers with supporting documentation, Operating Reserve bank statements, loan statements and related information;
  • Track reporting progress, including reporting not yet received from partners, and send additional notifications as needed; and,
  • Coordinate updates to VCDC database as needed for new properties, existing properties, and contacts.

Portfolio Management Support (approximately 35%)

  • Prepare and send notifications of desk and on-site audits, and physical inspections, including requests for information needed prior to such audits and inspections;
  • Support preparation of audit and inspection reports and receipt of responses from property partners, particularly for physical needs requiring correction or compliance matters requiring correction; and,
  • Maintain information on property insurance coverage within VCDC’s data system.

General Asset Management Team Support (approximately 15%)

  • Manage departmental contact lists including Financial contacts and Property Management contacts;
  • Assist the Asset Management team in planning and implementing training events, conferences, and similar activities;
  • Coordinate and schedule travel as needed for the team; and,
  • Special projects and requests, as needed.

Experience & Qualifications

We are in search of a confident self-starter who can collaborate and communicate well with others, who possesses a customer-service oriented disposition, and who is comfortable with a varying workload that often requires flexibility and creative solutions. This team member should be able to manage multiple projects and tasks at once and to maintain multiple internal and external constituent relationships.

Suited for an individual looking to begin a career in housing or community development and/or the nonprofit sector.

  • Experience: Preferred minimum of two years of experience with financial or real estate transactions, administration of housing and community development programs, and other work supporting implementation of programs serving multiple customers in complex transactions. Desirable is experience with Federal housing tax credits and/or other Federal, State, or local housing programs.
  • Education: Minimum of high school diploma or GED. Preferred Associates or Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with standard office equipment, and with video conferencing is required; experience with technology troubleshooting and support as a liaison are preferred.

Salary & Benefits

The salary for this position is competitive and dependent on the candidate's experience and qualifications. We encourage applications from individuals with varying levels of expertise, and the salary range is flexible to accommodate different skill sets, ranging from $40,000 to $52,500.

  • The typical work schedule is 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, though hours may vary occasionally based on business needs.
  • The designated primary base of operations for this position is our office in Richmond, VA.
  • Hybrid in-office and remote work schedule (three days in the office per week).
  • Rare statewide and regional travel may be required.
  • Physical demands include sitting, moving, lifting (up to 20 pounds), and effective communication.
