This job assists the Director of Radiology with the day-to-day operation of the Department of Radiology to include strategic planning; legal and regulatory compliance; financial management; relationship development; operations; and human resources management. This job ensures compliance with VCU and VCUHS policies and procedures. This job works directly with Radiology Managers to resolve problems, workflow issues, customer service issues, human resource issues and to implement new initiatives, policies, programs, etc. The Radiology Ops Associate Director reports to the Director of Radiology and is responsible for the clinical functions and processes for the Department. Through managers and supervisors, the Associate Director is responsible and accountable for the daily clinical operation of the Department of Radiology including Diagnostic Radiology, CT Ultrasound, Vascular Interventional Radiology, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT, Breast Imaging, Baird Vascular Institute and Stony Point Radiology. This job insures the highest level of operational excellence while ensuring safe, efficient, high-quality and cost effective care. Manages, oversees, maintains and improves business functions and processes related to his/her areas of responsibility as well a strong collaboration with other Radiology business unit leaders. This position may act in place of the Director of Radiology in her absence. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse (RN) Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA) certification through AHRA preferred Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse Current CRA certification preferred Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible Radiology supervisory/management positions Experience PREFERRED Seven (7) years of progressively more responsible Radiology supervisory/management positions Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment Previous work experience in developing and implementing new initiative and programs and in process improvement activities Education/training REQUIRED: Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Radiation Science (or closely related healthcare program), Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration Graduation from a JRC or JRCNMT accredited program in radiologic technology or nuclear medicine technology or graduation from an accredited RN nursing program Education/training PREFERRED: Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Radiation Science, Nursing or closely related field Independent action(s) required: All day to day operational functions of the Department of Radiology are handled independently. Advice and guidance sought from director on an as needed situational basis and when there is a major impact on the operational safety and efficiency of the department. Approval of staff evaluations at the “Exceeds” level and below. Ratings of “Exceptional” and “Does Not Meet” will be forwarded to Director and Vice President for review/signature. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Direct management of clinical staff managers. Chain of command oversight of all manager subordinates. Additional position requirements: Administrative radiology call every 4th weekend.
