What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate position at VDA Elevator and Escalator Consulting?
PRIMARY FUNCTION / PURPOSE : Daily duties include the inspection, design, and construction administration / supervision of a variety of vertical transportation designs.
Specific projects may include supervising modernization, repair and maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Be able to physically perform equipment inspections / audits in elevator hoistways and escalator wellways.
2. Prepare detailed specifications for elevator service, develop levels of service, frequency of service and related contractual requirements in a timely manner to meet client schedule.
3. Respond to requests for service, repair and / or modernization projects; provides direction on operational feasibility and type of equipment necessary.
4. Serve as consultant on all major repairs, modifications and upgrade of elevators, escalators, moving sidewalks and related equipment.
5. Serves as project manager on Modernization projects; organize maintenance and inspection schedules; provides continual review and documentation of construction administration phases.
6. Prepares budget projections and provide review of operational costs for maintenance and repair services.
- Design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability and throughout all types of equipment and service levels.
- Develop project specifications. Work with other engineering disciplines to ensure accuracy.
- Serve as the main source of communication between clients, architects and operations team.
- Discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, subcontractors, suppliers and customers.
- Manage projects using engineering principles and techniques; make sure a product can be made again reliable and will perform consistently in specified operating environments.
- Discuss changes in design, method of manufacture and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures with staff and coordinate corrections.
13. Prepare reports, memos and e-mails regarding VDA design.
14. Perform other job-related duties as necessary or assigned.
15. Assist other Associates and VDA Team Members with problem solving and support when workloads dictate.
PROBLEM-SOLVING : Requires familiarity with the routine problem-solving process with vertical transportation. Ensure communication with client on problems and possible solutions.
Decisions must be made to ensure timely submission of required documentation.
KNOWLEDGE : Possess knowledge of the principles and practices of mechanical and electrical engineering. Knowledge of the operating characteristics, maintenance requirements and specifications of different types and makes of vertical and horizontal transportation equipment.
Knowledge of applicable regulatory codes pertaining to the modernization, maintenance and installation of vertical and horizontal transportation equipment.
Knowledge of computerized equipment utilized in vertical and horizontal transportation systems.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY : Ability to make engineering cost estimates and related computations. Provide accurate and timely billable time and expenses submittals to accounting to ensure proper invoicing of clients.
CONTACTS : Will be required to maintain contact with clients externally and communicate regularly with internal staff of all levels.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
Education : Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience : Five (5) to Ten (10) years of experience in VT consulting, operations and / or management in the elevator industry.
Extensive knowledge of elevator terms and processes. Experience working in a fast paced environment and detailed oriented
Related Skills or Knowledge : Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to communicate effectively with people remotely.
Interpersonal, communications, and problem-solving skills necessary. Ability to operate office equipment, Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and database management.
Requires organizational and time management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
