Job Objective:
- Provide technical leadership to the plastics manufacturing and tooling operations.
- Act as lead for the department by leading improvement activities, standardization efforts, employee training and certification and departmental auditing.
- Assist production supervisor with day to day operations including process troubleshooting, validation of processing standards, training activities, and ensuring the department meets its goals.
- Complete necessary paperwork and computer work.
- In supervisors' absences, provide direction and leadership for department and interact with other supervisors throughout the company ensuring an efficient and safe working environment.
3rd Shift- 11pm-7am
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs as a consistent role model that functions independently in an unsupervised environment ensuring that all department activities are conducted safely, and all safety concerns are addressed immediately.
- Train and mentor new operations with regards to safety, equipment, materials, quality, packaging, power lifts, procedures, and processes.
- Ensures the accurate and defect free completion of scheduled tool builds, die preparation, roll preparation, all extrusion line set ups, changeovers, and start-ups
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical or quality issues concerning extrusion machinery, plastics processes, tooling, dies and rolls. Respond to Quality issues using Everest and/or Oracle.
- Utilize engineering and problem-solving techniques such as six-sigma and Lean tools to reduce product variability, increase quality, increase productivity, and lower costs.
- Lead 6s activities aimed at improving organization, productivity, safety, and employee satisfaction in the workplace.
- Responsible for recommending new procedures. Reviewing current procedures/processes and make suggestions for revisions and improvements as necessary.
- Lead efforts to ensure department goals are met for Safety, Production, Quality, delivery and costs.
- Technical expert and liaison responsible for coordination with staff in other departments.
- Ability to perform Plastics Specialist-S function as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
Minimum Required:
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Three years experience in plastic extrusion, manufacturing technology, and/or related experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team, and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 14001.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Desired:
- Associates Degree or certificate in Plastics Technology or a related Engineering discipline.
- Five years' experience in plastics processing in a manufacturing environment with 2 years including process development, troubleshooting and general maintenance of machinery; or a related two-year trade school degree.
- Experience with manufacturing resource planning systems.
