Summary
- Operates and maintains City of Kearny water distribution system. Participates in installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of water distribution components. Performs customer service requests and reads water meters.
Primary Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist with installation of new and replacement water mains, services fire hydrants and their appurtenances and repairs. Operates water distribution facilities.
- Responsible for the proper use and care of utility tools.
- Knowledge and use of the company’s safety policies and procedures.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance, housekeeping tasks, and inspections as assigned.
- Perform leak inspections
- Investigate leaks on services and/or mains
- Maintains appearance and cleanliness of all facilities under the responsibility of Suez; maintains and cleans vehicles.
- Collects samples for process control and compliance monitoring in accordance with standard procedures.
- Responds to alarms call outs and complaints. This includes on-call duty in accordance with the schedule determined by management.
- Assists in equipment repairs.
- Complies with company safety programs.
- Responds to customer service requests, meter reading, meter changes, high bill investigations, etc.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background
- High school diploma required.
- Less than 3 years’ experience in water distribution system
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Computer skills proficiency.
- Ability to perform general math calculations.
- Mechanical ability
- Ability to operate and maintain equipment such as tapping machines, portable ditch pumps, electric generators, pipe and leak detection equipment, jack hammer, backhoe, etc.
Required Certification / Licenses / Training
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license required, CDL Class B preferred
- Ability to obtain a New Jersey DEP W1 license 2 years after hire
- NJ License Class W1 preferred
- Must obtain W-1 within 24 months.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Ability to stand, sit and bend for extended periods of time. Must be able to climb and walk on uneven terrain. Must be able to read computer screens. Must be able to lift 50lb.
- Must be able to speak English to communicate with employees and customers.
- Must be able to read and write English. Must be able to learn new safety processes and new equipment/technology.
- Must be able to work in all kinds of weather and participate on emergency standby.
