Position Purpose

The Project Engineer will lead and coordinate plant projects, including feasibility, scope development, execution in a safe, timely, cost-effective manner.  They will work with maintenance and operations to improve plant reliability by addressing failure/downtime areas with projects and equipment upgrades.  Including assisting in optimizing planned turnarounds while playing a key part in envisioning, strategizing, and developing a go-forward plan for the future of the site. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Plan and implement investment projects (up to $2M USD)
  • Feasibility studies for projects including budgeted estimates and ROI justification
  • Coordination and quality control of contractors
  • Coordinate handling of all regulatory permitting
  • Apply company regulations to ensure projects are launched and completed safely
  • Budgeting and milestones plans and tracking of projects
  • Develop and foster strong working relationships along the manufacturing and engineering continuum and among other key functional units of the organization. 
  • Alignment with plant and operations excellence teams
  • Participate in development of the final qualification of equipment for sustainability of long-term process capabilities.
  • Stay technologically current, keep abreast of leading-edge technology and methods, including automation, to ensure best practices and processes. 

 

Qualifications:

  • 4 Year Engineering Degree required, Mechanical or Manufacturing concentration preferred
  • Prior project manager / engineer experience, ideally from chemical, oil, or ethanol industry
  • High technical proficiency including expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to PowerPoint, Word, Excel, MS Project, Access, and Outlook, Six Sigma, Pro E, CAD, solid works, RCFA, FMEA’s.
  • General understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, blueprints, electrical schematics, knowledge of PLC’s, chemicals.
  • Experience in vendor relationship management.
  • Enthusiastic, self-starter, energetic, organized, and service minded.
  • Demonstrated experience indicating effective communication skills, analytical ability, strategic thinking, detail orientation, and ability to make decisions and meet deadlines.

South Bend Ethanol LLC is the most recent plant acquisition. As a global leader in the renewable energy industry, this will be Verbio’s second US production facility following the successful commissioning of its Nevada, IA plant. The site will be developed over the next three years incorporating Verbio’s advanced engineering and operating technology practices. Verbio intends to expand and develop the plant into a modern biorefinery at an estimated total investment of $230 million.
