What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care Specialist (part-time) position at Verde Valley Humane Society?
We're looking for a compassionate pet-loving person to join our Animal Care team. This entry-level position provides hands-on care, feeding, cleaning, and enrichment of shelter pets.
Responsibilities:
- Clean and sanitize facility and animal habitats according to outlined procedures in a timely manner. Including emptying garbage, washing and sanitizing bowls, blankets, towels and litter pans in all locations.
- Clean cat and dog kennels. Have complete knowledge of all cleaning and animal care procedures.
- Handle all animals humanely and safely using safety equipment if necessary.
- Feed, water and observe animals brought into the Verde Valley Humane Society for signs of illness and behavior pattern changes.
- Able to recognize signs of illness or behavior changes and notify the Animal Health Department.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper handling and safety procedures while using and handling.
- Restock supplies in all areas as outlined on the sign-off sheets.
- Move animals as required within the facility and move the paperwork to the appropriate place.
- Laundry is clean, folded and neatly stacked on shelves.
- Assure all animals have the appropriate toys in their kennel for mental stimulation.
- Perform a meet and greet procedure between dogs as required.
- Remove dogs from kennel to show to prospective adopters.
- Assist the Animal Health Department with the transportation of animals to and from local veterinarians.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Basic knowledge of animals and animal handling is preferred.
- The ability to multi-task and work consistently at a fast pace.
- Must pass background screening review
$14/hr. to start. Part-time. 7 AM - 11 AM Flexible days. No allergies to cats.
