Job Summary
The Senior Estimator will plan and coordinate estimating department and staff, process, and project opportunity selection to ensure company and department goals and objectives are met. Provide technical assistance and direction to operations personnel as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Upon receipt of bid documents, review all bid proposal forms and information provided including but not limited to project plans, specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates.
- Review and consider historical data from prior jobs in progress and/or completed as relates to bid proposal needs and requirements.
- Develop and maintain detailed tracking of jobs bid and awarded for historical data use and trend information.
- Prepare bid proposals and estimates by accurately calculating complete takeoff of electrical scope of work.
- Participate in bid related presentations and submittal of qualification information.
- Maintain files of working documents as back up for estimate amounts, including accurate information from vendors, suppliers and lower tier subcontractors as applicable on a per project basis.
- Support other departments and/or personnel as required in preparing estimates, related change orders and other job cost factors.
- Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality and availability of materials and equipment to meet design intent.
- Review and approve all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to submission of bid documents.
- Participate in project related meetings including pre-bid jobsite inspections, meetings and communications; post-bid follow up; and upon award - job start up turnover, progress and closeout.
- Provide technical assistance and bid confirmation support in contract review process, negotiations, scope of work and change orders.
- May assist other departments or personnel in the preparation of studies, materials and methods, recommendations and cost estimates.
- Use NEC (National Electrical Code) book as reference material in performing or directing the performance of work.
- Develop and implement department standards and procedures.
- Schedule, assign and supervise work of estimating staff, monitor quantity and quality of work performed by each staff member.
- Assist Senior Management team with determining strategies, techniques, and project types to bid.
- Participate in and/or lead individual and group presentations to company management and Clients.

- Other project or operational related assistance as may be needed from time to time as requested by supervisor.

Educational/Certification Requirement
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in construction management or similar curriculum, industry related experience may serve as a substitute.
- Ten (10) or more years’ experience / knowledge of construction; design; field and cost management as an Estimator or similar position.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of contract documents, including plans, specifications, general conditions and other related items.
- Demonstrated commitment to education and training of department staff and project personnel.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods, etc.) as well as an understanding of company and industry practices, processes and standards and their impact on project activities.
- Computer software proficiency including MS Office Suite, Outlook, Microsoft Project, Viewpoint, Accubid Estimating and / or other job-related hardware and software applications that may be required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Work in office 40 hours per week and overtime if required.
- Job may require repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers and / or prolonged periods of sitting throughout workday.
- Jobsite visits may require exposure to:
- Job site conditions during inclement weather such as extreme heat, cold or precipitation.
- Uneven or slip prone surfaces, ditches, trenches and other types of excavations.
- The operating of heavy equipment, vehicular traffic and extreme noise conditions.
- Restricted or confined spaces such as manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, clean-rooms, and / or raised metal floors.
- Various heights by use of ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, and other manual elevated work platforms and areas.
- Wearing a personal (waist) tool belt at all times while performing work on a jobsite which may weigh approximately 30 pounds when stocked.
- Energized electrical systems and equipment, storage containers, transmission raceways, and manufacturing equipment containing chemicals or potentially toxic materials .
- The use of construction site sanitary facilities (i.e. Porta-John).
- Must be able to satisfactorily pass and meet security clearance requirements, background checks and / or other identification processes for client work of particular or confidential nature or as may be required by the company from time to time.
- Must comply with all applicable federal, state and local statutes, regulations and procedural requirements mandated by work performed that is of a qualified, defined safety sensitive nature.
